• Re: Symptoms of an Asus

I've had these problems with two of my customer Intel socket 478 ASUS board, with the same CPU spec, both of em using Celeron. I can't remember the mobo series but both of em are the same and had the same problem. They keep BSOD, and the problem are the CPUs, coz when i swap it with another Pentium from my other customer, it would boot up fine and i can start to reinstall the Windows. So i think perhaps the Clereon is a defective tray CPU or maybe there's a compatibility problem with it and the mainboard. So try to use a different CPU for a few hours, if...

  • How to repair mainboard choke?

I got another Intel board that has a problem. I noticed that if the onboard VGA is set to 32MB (wich is the maximum number) the board would fail to boot and making a 2 short followed by 6 even shorter beep. At first I thought that it's because the 2 broken caps (one under the PCIe slot and one above the PCIe slot right below the North Bridge). So I replace the two caps and it would boot once. But when I try too restart the board, it failed to boot again with the same symptoms (the beep). So I try to boot the board while giving a pressure to the North Bridge and walla... It's working... So I think...

  • Re: Need advice for new computer

Get a good quality PSU and an All Solid Caps board, trust me that's all you'll going to need, it will last longer and more stable. Buy new SATA HDD, and save all your data cause there won't be anymore IDE port in the future.

  • Re: Identify and Fix Dead BIOS?

I've tried everything, believe me (read my post again). I do thinking about buying a good POST card.

ASRock use onboard video, ASUS use discrete video.

I've found this, this and this. Too bad it's out of production now. Haven't tried...

  • Identify and Fix Dead BIOS?

I got an ASUS and an ASRock board that power on but doesn't light up the screen. All fans are working, tried it with a new CoolerMaster SilentPro M500, tried different CPU and RAM on a workbench but still nothing happened.

    ASUS:
Baked the ASUS (Got no hot air rework station yet). No recap (No bulging caps found).
But still nothing on the screen and no beeps even when the RAM or VGA removed.

    ASRock:
Rinsed it with thinner and replaced all the caps.
Same problem with ASUS but sometimes it would beep if the RAM removed and sometime it would POST and...

Simbadda SimCool 430W. Please don't laugh
It's not the best, but It's quite good I guess by the look of the Transistor, Rectifier, etc. I sell these SimCool and it's more stable and it's still better than those Sim-X, Mentari or Okaya PSU which always making a reboot problems. I'm thinking about replacing it with Simbadda 500W (Lifetime Warranty) when this unit is broken beyond repair.

Well I don't know about Young Year but this thing still works after I replace the 12V with a used 16V UCC KZG, 5V and...

Ok, I'll note that. But I don't have any O'scope.

I've replaced all the output filter caps (16V 1.000uF & 10V 1.000uF D10mm) (6 Total) with a used 6x UCC KZG 16V 1.200uF just to test it. I'm planning to poly mod the PSU.

You're right, I also laugh when I read the brand. Sounds like Nichicon fake, hahaha...

The PSU stay on, but it won't boot. I don't have the complete note of all the rail voltage since I think they're all fine accept for the...

  • Re: How to repair PSU?

Ok, here's the picture. There's nothing burnt on this unit. But I've test it with DMM and the +5V would starts from 5.30V and then goes down and stay at 5.25V. The other Volts are still in normal range.

    Here's the caps spec :

    2x 16V 1.000uF D10mm - Nicon (Black)
    1x 16V 1.000uF D8mm - Nicon (Black)
    2x 16V 220uF D8mm - Nicon (Blue)
    4x 10V 1.000uF D10mm - Nicon (Dark Blue)
    1x 50V 100uF D8mm - BH (Purple)
    3x 50V 10uF D5mm - BH (Purple)
    2x 50V 2.2uF D5mm - Nicon (Blue)
    2x 50V 1uF D5mm...

Wow it's Rubycon. But 35V is too high for a mainboard I think. Probably works in LCD monitor.

    How to repair PSU?

Hi everyone, I want to know how to repair a PSU unit, how to identify wich part is broken and where to buy the replacement parts. Coz I've been dealing with a lot of faulty and even dead PSU. Is it possible to repair it?

Right now I have a PSU that still alive but won't boot a PC, also have one that keep making problem with the Hard Drive (damage it), Optical Drive (burning failure) and also making all the Case fans dead.

I'm really curious about fixing this thing and even make it better and more reliable than before.

  • Re: Intel DG965RY power on every time main AC power connected

Hi PCBONEZ,I have tested the mainboard for a week now and I just want to update the result of this Intel mainboard.

Although the mainboard has a burned I/O chip and also a broken circuit line, the mainboard in fact is running flawlessly and faster than before
The previous BSOD error (Hard error and Memory dump) are caused by a faulty Hard Drive
I have test the board with other Hard Drive for almost a week now and it's running perfectly, never encounter any BSOD, hang or sudden...

    Thanks digge

Nice info, it's really detail PCBONEZ. I've changed the caps with Samxon GA 6,3V 3.300uF and I add one more cap to the empty post on the upper side. Now everything is good, and the slow loading problem was caused by faulty either ODD or IDE cable, everytime I plug the Optical Drive the PC would run very slow. So I change it to a newer SATA DVD-RAM and it's working smoothly now....

I've replace most of the caps with poly, including the 10V D6,3mm. Now i just have to test it for several days to make sure that the problem has been solved, which i doubt. I also see a toasted path on the back side of the PCB.

This board does has alot of problem but for now it seems to run faster and more stable, hasn't crashed or reboot suddenly after complete recap. We'll see the outcome in a week. Next time i'll be more thorough when inspecting physical failure sign....

Hi PCBONEZ, my caps have arrived.

I've replace the following caps :
    2x 16V 1.200uF D10mm UCC KZG with Nichicon LG 16V 820uF,
    4x 6,3V 220uF D6.3mm UCC KZG with Samxon X-CON ULR 6,3V 470uF, and
    9x 3.300uF 10mm Nichicon HM with Sanyo OS-CON SEPC 1.500uF.
Everything seem run faster and fine so far.

But today i've seen that a chip has been burnt, i don't know what chip it is? Does this has any bad impact for the system? I've attached the picture too.

    I want to...

I'll replace it when my Samxon's arrived this week, i think those OST would last alot longer than just a week.

Ok, i'll try that tomorrow. Do you have any diagram for 24-pin ATX2 pin out? Incomplete info = disaster, right :P...

So i have to stick the test probe to the MB line and not the soldered caps lead right?

Phew... I was testing the caps like ipman told me and i got confused my self coz every caps lead on the board that i test are beeping. Stupid me

    That's what i'm trying to

Now i begin to understand your previous diagram, so the 16V act as VRM-high filter and the 2,5V-6,3V act as Vcore filter. And combining different caps value is ok as long i use the same or higher voltage...

And how exactly do i do this? I've got a DMM but it's just a normal Digital Multi Meter and not a Low ESR meter. Can you tell me how to check it with a DMM if they are paralleled?

I think i've seen that kind of combination a few times on some board. But will it work if it's mixed like that? What to consider before doing this mixed thing? Do you think that the caps on the left side are in the VRM too? I think it's the 12V rail, because it's 4x 16V 1.200uF...

    Is This VRM?

I just got another broken ASUS board, there's 5 bulging caps on it. They're UCC KZG 6.3V 3.300uF D10mm. I see that the caps is in VRM, but i need to make sure if it's right. I also need advice what caps can be use to replace them other than 3.300uF. Those 5 caps are the only 6.3V 3.300uF D10mm caps on the board.

Btw, i've seen more UCC caps bulging and never seen a bulging Nichicon. Is it UCC is more inferior than Nichicon?...

Yup, i've ordered it . You are very helpful PCBONEZ, you

Yup, i would stock them too. Next time i'll try to get a board with only 10mm and 8mm caps onboard ...

Great info PCBONEZ, thanks. But what about the uF should i use the same or is it better to have a higher uF? The only 6.3mm diameter 10V cap i found available has only 330uF capitance, is it ok to use that?
