Susceptible disc tray on Yamaha BD-S673

    Dear all,
First message on this nice forum!

I have been troubleshooting my blu-ray player Yamaha BD-S673. Despite its age (I bought it in 2013), it still works EXCEPT the disc tray is behaving. Over time, it was more and more refusing to open, until it just did not open anymore. I opened it, cleaned it (a hair, some dust) and it seemed to work again, but only for a couple of days.

It seems it works without the disk tray plastic cover. However, I am pretty sure it would not be prudent to run it with a disk without that cover. The plastic cover contains a relatively heavy part, what looks like a magnet, which I believe is involved in the rotation / stabilization of the disc.

I have the impression that the plastic cover is pressing a bit too much, in particular close to the opening. I was considering cutting a bit of the plastic at the front, see if it helps... but I thought maybe somebody has a better idea?

Hey, thanks a lot, I will try,
one question though: what about the role of this magnet on top of the tray? Without it, and even with the rest of the cover on, it seems to work repeatidly. As soon as I place back the little magnet, it seems the reading mechanism does not lower fully, which may explain why the tray is not extended. Although it does still work sometimes.
Could this still be explained by a weak rubber band then?

Over time, the rubber belt stretched and lost elasticity, and the motor shaft slipped.

The rubber drive belt can also get deformed and basically formed to its position around the two pulleys, if this is the case it can slip and not open the tray. with the magnetic clamper removed there is less resistance to overcome so it might open.
If you remove the belt, it should be round and not look like it is still around the drive pulleys. You can try cleaning the belt but it likely needs replacing

Thanks. it makes sense. I ordered the band as pointed also by Iotas above.
In the meantime, it works again, but probably only until the band gets again in a too comfortable position.
I do hope this will solve the issue. I would be really annoyed if this 9 years old unit would not work anymore. Also, Yamaha stopped doing any blu-ray player...

PS5 Disc Not Supported/ Disc Not Recognized Board Num: EDM-020
              by Junior††

              Good Afternoon fellas,

              Issue:
Disc is showing as not supported when a disc is put in.

Here's what I've done, you can skip this if you just wanna know the question:
              - replaced with a disc drive from a donor ps5 (honestly questionable if this is known to work)
              - reflowed the disc drive connector
-reflowed the chip in question (shown on image)
              - I will say this console was very dusty so it's conceivable that it got so hot that it made the chip joints cold and potentially other things on the board

              Question:
              I...

              Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

Help Needed: Yamaha RX-V485 Network Issue After Firmware Update (WN9711 Error)

              Hi everyone,

I'm facing an issue with my Yamaha RX-V485 receiver. During a firmware update, the process failed, and now the USB, Bluetooth, and network functionalities are not working. Occasionally, the receiver displays the error code WN9711.

I came across Yamaha Technical Bulletin No. 0103, which describes a similar issue for models like the RX-V4A, RX-V6A, and RX-A2A. According to the bulletin, the issue can be resolved by shorting soldering points (e.g., J260 for RX-V4A or...

              Yamaha RX V675 sound issues
              by jjne
I have an old Yamaha RX V675 receiver which is starting to develop issues with the sound, although it doesn't quite match up with what folk normally report with these.

From cold, the sound cuts in and out. When this happens the amp is losing sync with the optical input (speaker graphic disappears from the front panel). But this is not resolved by putting the unit into pure direct mode. After a couple of minutes this resolves, although there are occasional clicks from the speakers after that.

At first I thought it was either a speaker relay or the DSP, but I don't think...

              YAMAHA CLP-550 without of sound
              by AlexVG
              Hi.
I have an old YAMAHA CLP-550 without sound. (Some times I can get some kind of noise or distorted sound)
I have replaced all green marked elements, but it gave me nothing.
The IC12 chip LC9116A-105 (red marked) remains under suspicion yet.

But it is custom YAMAHA's chip, and I can't find any information about it.
Maybe somebody came across with the same issue?
Any information will be very useful. I will be very appreciated.
              Thank you....
