ltv-32bg (32power500 power supply) bad caps

    hi
i'm having trouble finding the right caps for a astar ltv-32bg lcd tv, the power supply has a few budging caps, 32power500 is the pcb # for the power supply. the caps are ksd km and kw. can these be crossed over to another capacitor? the tv would power up and the screen would flash , i'm thinking the lamp tube protection circuit was going out because of the caps.

    180uf 450v 1 45mm H 27mm dia. ksd km 105c
    2200uf 10v 2 26mm H 16mm dia. ksd kw 105c
    1000uf 10v 2 21mm H 15mm dia. ksd kw 105c
    220uf 50v 1 20mm H 15mm dia. ksd kw 105c
    22uf 100v 1 19mm H 13mm dia. ksd km 105c
    1000uf 16v 2 25mm H 15mm dia. zckj lr +105c
    2200uf 16v 2 26mm H 18mm dia. ksd kw 105c
    1800uf 35v 3 31mm H 18mm dia. aishi cd288 +105c

i can't find out what the km and kw series cross over to or a replacement for them?

Re: ltv-32bg (32power500 power supply) bad caps

KSD is a known bad cap.

If the original 450V unit is a snap-in unit (thick leads), use Nippon Chemi-Con KMM. Otherwise (if original cap has thin leads), use KMG.
For all the other units, use Nippon Chemi-Con KY.
For the 100V unit, use Nippon Chemi-Con LXV, because this voltage and capacitance value is not available for KY.
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

      hi
i have been looking at the chemi-con web pages and i'm lost as to how to formulate a part #
if you look at this web page chemi-con and look at the chart for series kmq it list the ranges of voltage 6.3v to 450v and the uf from 0.1uf to 47,000uf but when you open the pdf the voltage is listed for 450v but the highest uf only gives a part # for 100uf if you look at kmg series it is the same way, am i missing something here?

one cap i'm looking for is 180uf 450v kmg

Diameters are less in most cases than the originals. KSD site is down/gone so x-ref is not likely to original specs. These UCC caps are superior in any case and should do very well in your TV.

I increased those 2 in value to keep you in the same series of caps. It will not cause any problems by doing so.

On the last one, you'll need to solder the wires from the existing cap to it. These are difficult to find with leads. Cut off the leads as close as you can to the base of the old one. Make sure you mark them so you'll know which is positive and which is negative.

ok i still am having trouble crossing over capacitors. i have a capxon kf series capacitors is there a chart some where that crosses these series between manufactures? cause when i go through the digi-key search it doesn't list the kf series. i looked up capxon kf series pdf but i guess i don't know what i'm looking at of for on it.

ok i haven't got my parts yet be here is a pic of the power supply .

Re: ltv-32bg (32power500 power supply) bad caps

There is no cross reference, per se, between manufacturers. It's more of a "look up the specs for what you have and find a comparable (or better) replacement" type of process.

                I have a spec sheet on KF's. What size/voltage/value?

Is this on the same board as the first batch of caps?

                  hi
no this isn't the same board this is a power supply for a lcd monitor, i'v been looking at pdf's and am not sure of what needs to be the same when crossing over caps, i know the uf needs to be the same and the voltage needs to be the same or higher, temp is usually 105c. the rest of it i'm not sure what is in portion, id like to be able to figure this out on my own but im having trouble.

this is my list, the psu is out of a model va11201 lcd monitor.

                  1000uf 16v 10mmd x 20mml kf capxon
                  680uf 16v 10mmd x 15mml kf capxon
                  470uf 50v 10mmd x 20mml kf capxon
                  100uf 400v 18mmd x 31mml km capxon

                  10uf 50v 5mmd x 11mml kf capxon

these are capxon i was trying to cross them over to something i could get from digikey

Re: ltv-32bg (32power500 power supply) bad caps

you're right that you need same uF and same or higher voltage. Things you also need to make sure of are same diameter and a height that will fit (i see you have all the measurements), lead spacing that is the same (so the caps will sit flush with the board), and same or lower ESR/Z and/or same or higher ripple current rating. I recommend the Panasonic FC or FM series.

This would be a good replacement for the first one: http://search.digikey.com/scripts/Dk...name=P12366-ND I'll let you search for others. Digikey makes it easy to search for exactly what you need. I (or somebody else) could help you find others if you need help.

yup, ESR/Z is usually measured in milli ohms, and ripple current in mA rms

                          http://www.capxongroup.com/en/prod_all_cat_full.aspx

Grab the KF PDF file and follow etnietering's advice.

I find it easiest to print out the PDF's for each series that you're dealing with. Doing on the computer screen is a PITA. It will make you bug-eyed and it gets very confusing very fast.

Example based on one of your caps: 1000uf 16v 10mmd x 20mml kf capxon

                          From the KF spec sheet:
The series has a maximum temperature rating of 105°C (Good)
Size is 10x20mm, Ripple is 1350mA, and Impedance (Z) is 0.065 ohms
For all intents and purposes, ESR and Z are the same thing here.

Let's compare it to a Panasonic FC series:
                          Spec sheet:

                          From the FC spec sheet:
The series has a maximum temperature rating of 105°C (Good)
Size is 10x20mm, Ripple is 1220mA, and Impedance (Z) is 0.052 ohms
                          -Temp matches
                          -Size matches
-A little low in the ripple handling from what CapXon claims
                          -ESR/Z is a touch better

Now let's compare it to a Panasonic FM series:
                          Spec sheet:

                          From the FM spec sheet:
The series has a maximum temperature rating of 105°C (Good)
Size is 10x20mm, Ripple is 2180mA, and Impedance (Z) is 0.019 ohms
                          -Temp matches
                          -Size matches
-Ripple handling is over 800mA better than the CapXon
-ESR/Z is more than 2-1/2 times better than CapXon

The FM would be my choice here. Higher ripple - lower ESR/Z.

The process will come to you over time and working your way through several of these problems.

looks good to me. One thing though - the 470uF @ 50v one, the one you picked has a 12.5mm diameter, and the one it's replacing has a 10mm. If there's room around it this won't be a problem, but it's something to check.

Hi, I'm a newbie. Just when I thought I had these capacitors figured out, I come across a cap that says 223K 1KV. It is C27 on the power board and about the size and color of a coffee bean. It got cooked by the resister next to it so I need to replace it. The writing on it says either CSD or C8D or C&D, MPR 223K 1KV.

Any help as to what it is exactly and where I could get a replacement would be greatly appreciated.

                                        Thanks
