    Westinghouse LTV-32W1 SMPS blown

Main SMPS section of this board have 2 transistors, one of them is blown along with .1 ohm resistor fried (but can tell the original color bands).

    Q301 and Q302, R2.

The pair of transistors is P20NM50FP.

Problem is our local supplier have this transistor here but there is other suitable MOSFET transistors if I can sub in. Care to show some good subs?

    Cheers, Wizard

iirc this uses an sg6841 which has also died.

should be simple to sub this.dk has them in stock.

kc8adu, Thanks for replying, this uses two MOSFETs not one with this controller (checked, their application notes shows one MOSFET).

I'll pull board and see what IC it is.

      Cheers, Wizard

Sheesh 6 bucks for a FET?

Someones milking on the way through the supply chain.

Wizard check this type FDPF20N50-ND or in this page .
These are rated at 500V while the P20NM50FP is rated at 550V.

Give a look also at FCPF20N60-ND.

20v / 2A SMPS for a Battery Charger - Explanation of Blown Resistors Please..
            by reessi
            Hello,

My friend asked me to replace the wire going from this SMPS 20v adapter to the charger for a 18v Lithium Battery for a drill.

The cable had frayed and been touching, as a result the 5 Paralleled R200 (0.2 ohm) resistors had blown O/C, they are connecting the main -ve rail to the output wire.

The output was jumping around 13v and dis-appeared when a load like the charger was connected, they measured 900ohms.

I experimented by replacing at first a single 0 ohm and then a 2.2ohm in and the output was restored at 21.62v and 21.65v respectively...

Blu-Ray player Harman Kardon BDS 277 : SMPS IC blown
            by RolandVossen
            Hi,

I just finished a repair of this player, the symptom was that it was completely 'dead'. I created this topic so it may benefit anyone else.

The root cause was that one of the SMPS ICs was blown up, which was only visible after a lid on a cooling body was removed (see attached picture).

The PCB type number is 40-K250HG-PWD1G.

            A service manual for the BDS 277 EU is available online (file name: BDS-275 & 277 & 575 & 577 Rev 1.pdf)

I replaced the TOP257EN with a type that can handle more current:...

LG 47LB5DF blown power supply board
            by cmlewis89
            Hi folks,

I'm new to this forum. So my trusty 17-year-old LG 47" LCD recently died. As I was booting it up, I heard a hum followed by a loud bang, sounds of pieces flying around, and loss of power to the unit. Inspecting the PSU, I saw two obvious problems: a blown thermistor (bang + flung pieces) and a visibly bulging main cap. Inspecting as many components as I could with my Fluke MM, I diagnosed that the following components on the "hot side" of the board were also bad: one of the 2 main MOSFETs, main 8A fuse, small cap (25V 47uF) connected to main caps, and a blown...

Hi, Can we use SMPS Bench Power Supply for Laptop troubleshooting?
            by shamsudeen
Hi all, I just need to know that, can i use SMPS type power supply to test and short circuit detection on a laptop motherboard?
I saw 95% of repair guys are using only Linear bench power supply. linear bench power supply is pricy, thats why i planned to get one SMPS supply.

i know that in linear power supply the noise will be very low comparing to SMPS supply....

            Hello,

I know some might say... just buy another one. Sell it as parts..!

So had this AMP for quite some time. Recently I saw light smoke coming out of the AMP. Had my fire extinguisher close by. Just kidding. Turned immediately all devices off from mains.
Let things cool a bit, and opened up the amp device. I clearly saw on the main board which hosts the 5X amp (5.1), 3 10 ohms 1W resistors had their leads looking black, while the rest of the remaining 2 x 10 ohms were brownish as being installed from factory.

Spent some time downloading the Service...
