Replacing an LCD screen from a modern TV

    Hi All,

Is it practical/economical to replace the LCD screen on a TV?

As an example I have a LG 42LB585V with a nasty crack. I was told a small child was literally throwing his toys out of the pram. No usable image is visible just the random colours around the crack.

    So I have some questions:

Are screens available from the manufacturer? LG in this case.
    Are OEM screens available?
    If so from who?
Would the screen come with the long thin video boards that interconnect between the screen and the T-con board?
What are the ball park prices for original and OEM screens?

    Many thanks in anticipation.

Look at the LCD panel model number and the do the search for the spec sheet and the web to see what is available out there, you will find that new LCD panel will cost about the same price as the new TV.

I must admit that was my gut feeling.

      Are there any other views?

Over the last five or more years I have checked prices on LCD panels for most major brands. No luck finding a good replacement (price) if they are even available. Manufacturers don't want to sell panels for repairs. Some panels are available for in warranty failures but most panels are used to make a new TV.

All you will find if lucky are used panels from disassembled scrapped TVs. It's rare that you will find a new one, the price will be about the same as for a whole working TV. Sometimes you get ones that are sort of "smuggled" from authorized repair centers, it's rare though.

Generally It's not worth the effort. If the panel is damaged, the TV is totaled in my view. Scavenge the boards and scrap it.
