Samsung LE27T51B volume increases or decreases automatically

    Hi guys.

    I have a situation with a Samsung LE27T51B with a volume issue.

The volume increases automatically or sometimes it decreases.

If I disconnect the button module, it doesn't do that, but the IR receiver is in the same board so we have no control over the TV.

I've already tested with the multi-meter all the buttons, and they are in open state. Even when the TV is increasing the volume they are all in open state.

I've measured all resistors of the board and all seams to be OK. I couldn't measure the capacitors because I don't know his values.

I'm attaching some picture of the boards and issue.

    Any clue?

    Thank you in advance.

    Best regards,

Did you try covering the IR on the TV with black tape or something? Maybe take the IR off the board and plug the button board back in. Also you could swap a button, maybe the problem shifts? Or take the offending volume button out and retest. See what happens and report back.

Thank you CapLeaker for your reply!

Well, I've took out the batteries of the remote, so it couldn't be the remote. I forgot to mention, but I even desolder the 2 volume buttons and the issue persists.

I'll try to desolder the IR of the board and see what happens.

      Best regards!

Could be sticky buttons, did you try cleaning them with ISA alcohol?

The problem does go away when the button board is unplugged, right? Maybe upload again some high resolution, straight shot pictures of the button board top and bottom. Maybe clean the whole board with 99% alcohol or acetone. Don't use the 70% stuff, as it leaves water after the alcohol evaporates. By any chance there isn't any brown glue on that board?

The fault could be caused by one of the other buttons, there will be likely +(5) volts on one end of the resistor ladder and ground and then there is the line that goes to main with the selected voltage for the command. Once the voltage reaches the threshold of the command it activates (ie:2.0v vol-up, 2.5v vol-dn, menu 3v) If menu button becomes leaky and starts to conduct, the voltage will slowly rise and if it hits 2v when the key input line is read, the vol goes up if it is at 2.5v when the line is read, vol goes dn.

They sometimes use clock & data lines for the button commands but the same situation can happen

Vizio D65x-G4 Volume changes on its own
              by karthur
On this Vizio D65x, the volume will change on its own. I don't mean like during commercials where the volume will increase. I mean its like the (+) volume button on the remote is pressed and the actual volume dialog is displayed on the screen going up. It will do this, then the volume may start going down. It might go all the way to "0"or it might stop at a different number, then start going back up. The whole time its doing this, the volume dialog is shown on the screen.

It wont do it until it has been "ON" for 20 or 30 minutes, so it does seem to be heat related....

Sony HCD-HX80R Amplifier Volume Control Problem
              by crackedprint
I have a strange fault on a Sony amplifier. The volume control varies the display from MIN, then 1 up to 30 and then MAX as expected. At MIN there is no sound. However, at 1 it is quite loud and increasing above 1 does not change the sound level.

I have tried a Cold Reset as per the service manual.

I have looked at the I2C clock and data to volume control chip IC501 (BD3499FV). Data is only sent to IC501 when the volume is set to MIN or 1. At any other setting no data is sent to IC501.

I have looked all the way through the service manual and tried many online...

Marantz SR5007 popping on volume change and mute in Direct Mode
              by BigOof
              Hi,

I bought a used Marantz SR5007 and it's giving me some issues that I can't seem to really place. It functions well in most settings, ARC mostly works, it has no issues driving my speakers in any of the digital input modes, but I'm having issues running analog inputs in direct or pure direct mode. For some reason in this mode there's distortion for every volume increment I give it, but once the volume is stable it has no issues. Muting creates a loud pop, switching to another source also causes a pop and so does turning off the amp in that mode. Again, no issue in the digital modes....

Samsung Soundbar Q900T Cuts Off if Volume above 30
              by Storyteller12
I have this soundbar and when I turn it on it works until I turn the volume above 30.
Then the display show “PROT” protection and shuts off.

I can turn it right back on and it works until volume hits 30 again.

There is a little static on the surround speakers so I unplugged them but still have same problem. I tried unplugging all speakers also and when volume goes above 30 it shuts off.

I can turn the volume above 30 if nothing is playing but as soon as I play something it shuts off.

It will play fine for hours with volume...

Onkyo TX-SR607 replacement volume control encoder
              by redwire
I had an Onkyo SR607 with a volume control encoder not working, turning the knob up the volume number would move around crazy and not work reliably.
Took it out and apart and no, it's not oxide or cleaning, lube required etc.- the metal is simply worn out. It's a 30mm part with metal bushing.

Volume control encoder Onkyo P/N 25065655W, Alps EC12E2425 is some oddball variant I could not find. I did the dig and tried replacement part Alps EC12E2420803 and it works/fits just like the original. Mouser 688-EC12E2420803 for $3.00
