SANSUI PLASMA: Could mains surge damage Zsustain only?

    Hi Guys,

    I have a Sansui SV-EPD-42QOBP that has a damaged Z SUSTAIN board.
Is it possible for a mains surge to damage the Z SUSTAIN board only.

As a rule I dont do plasma tv repairs, but a customer needs a damage report for their insurance broker, so I took it on.

I do a lot of damage reports on lcds, these range from cracked panels, liquid damage and power surges. In most instances the surge damage is quite evident where you can see damage in the front end of the power supply.
(these surges appear after a power outage and the power comes back on)

I found two swollen capacitors, and the +VS pin(desoldered) dead short to ground.

I am not going to attempt a repair. (i've tried before and the heat sink & plated through holes make chip removal near impossible & the hassle of sourcing one).

Is it possible for the surge to take out the Z SUSTAIN board, yet leave the power supply intact? (you would think the power supply would be taken out first?)

I have the same scenario where LCD's have failed LED lamps, and the customers reckon it happened when they had power outage/ surge.

Once again, is this possible where the power supply is intact, yet something "down the line" is damaged.

    Photos attached.

    Thanks, Mike.

Having looked further I see more ruptured caps on the audio/ input board. So im going with a mains surge.

A `mains surge' would have damaged the power supply, and likely only the primary. If there are ruptured caps elswhere, that is just due to use and the age of the tv.

Thanks RJ, maybe i used the term power surge too loosely.

I am going to have to find out what conditions could arise on a mains line in the event of an interruption of the power.

          Thanks for the response.

Bad mains power causing TV malfunctions?
            by chopduel
            Hi,
I've been living in the same apartment for about 5 years now, and moved into it with my old Samsung plasma TV (PS51F5500).
Ever since we've moved in, we would sometimes see strange power-cycling behavior. For example:
            • TV would randomly turn off then back on.
            • TV would turn off and the LED light would blink for a while (over a minute sometimes) until eventually it went back to a regular off state and could be turned on
            • Sometimes it would require disconnecting the mains cord from the TV, waiting several minutes, then putting it back in and turning the TV back on. This had limited

            Hi Guys,

I have a faulty Sansui SV-EPD-42Q0BP plasma television that is faulty.

Symptom: very dim column of broken picture on right hand side. A column about an eighth of the screen width. the other 7/8 of the screen blank.

            Diagnosed: 1) Capacitors C96 & C100 both 47uf/250v swollen/ ruptured.
            2) Fuse FS152 4A Open circuit.
            3) Pin +VS on Hybrid ic measures 0.8 ohms to Gnd.
(this is with the pin de-soldered from the pcb.
            4) D96 & D85 on the +VS supply measure ok.

Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15IAU7 that suffered water damage
            by Joel Ohana
            Hi,

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15IAU7 that suffered water damage. It doesn't turn on (white power light flashes when on button pressed), and the amber light flashes when plugged in.

            Symptoms:
            • Short detected – sparks appear when touching the charging port connection with board with a metal (even a multimeter probe).
            • Visible damage – after cleaning corrosion, I found 4 possibly burnt memory chips near PC3165, labeled UD5, UD6, UD7, and UD8.

What are my next steps to diagnose and possibly repair it without replacing the entire board? Any guidance would be greatly...

A1466 Macbook Air (Liquid damage repair)
            by mon2
Hi. Recently serviced a damaged A1466 Macbook Air. Thought to post the issues and resolution for each.

Macbook AIR Model A1466 Diagnostic 09-01-2021

Issue: Liquid damaged (beer spill) Macbook AIR will not power up.

            Problems & Resolutions

            1) Attached Apple magsafe power adapter. No green / no orange light. This confirms the absence of the PP3V42_G3H voltage rail. The PP3V42_G3H rail is the primary voltage rail necessary to communicate with the magsafe power adapter to report the green or orange light status to the end user....
