    LG 65EC970V 65EC9700 - OLED TCON bad fpga voltage?

    Hello,

    This is my first repair of new digital TV, I've only repaired mobile phones, notebooks etc. so far and some old TVs.

    Symptoms: no picture; power on normally, joystick key and remote control works ok, tv is programmed with cable tv, changes channels, play sound normally, etc. TV has been working normally, but just picture disapearred one day.

    TV has 4 boards:
    - power supply
    - mainboard
    - some kind of OSD+Video mixer board (called URSA9 in service manual)
    - T-con board.

    Video signal goes like that: mainboard -> 51 pin LVDS cable -> URSA9 board with -> 2 LVDS cable (51 and 41 pin) -> T-con board. Mainboard ans URSA9 board have diagnostic "VX1 lock LED" which indicates that next board in chain has good signal connection and integrity receiving. Eg. URSA9 after receiving data calibrates and checks it, and if all is good, sends back to motherboard "LOCK" signal, and led on motherboard just lights on. Same situation with T-con -> URSA9, all lock LED lights on. So I assume video signal is properly going to T-con board.

    Of course, power supply has been checked, for voltages not loaded and under load, all OK. Fuses on T-con OK. No difference with panel ribbons connected and unconnected. At further investigation, I've found that one of that two big Altera FPGAs, the left one on photo, isn't working. To be clearly isn't configuring. Left is cold, right gets as suspected warm in some time. Each FPGA has his own configuration memory chip, EPCQ256N. Normally FPGA downloads bitstream from it on power up, and configure itself withing 500ms . It can be watched, as DCLK and DATA pins of EPCQ for right FPGA are transmitting for this short time. Thought that maybe this EPCQ chip for left FPGA is broken or data corrupted, but after changing them in places, chip seems to be ok. it programs right fpga properly.

    Clock generator driving FPGA has two outputs with good 25MHz signal, going to each FPGA.

    I've got a clue if one of DCDC converter supplying power to left FPGA has slightly to big voltage, should be 1.15V, but outputs 1.23V. From what I've found in FPGA datasheet, it has build in POR circuit, that will not let to start configure itself until it has this supply voltage within its rating (1.15 +/- 30mV). Suspicious DCDC converter driver is marked 0A=1K X1P or OA=1K X1P. Can you help to decode it's name or/and find datasheet for it?

      I didn't remove any coils so far. I've also wondering why they are not straight soldered, but I can see the same on other t-con on web, 6870C-0514D and 6870C-0514J also have strangly positioned coils. It looks this must be done so wierd in factory.

      Anyway, L12 should be ok, volgate after it is rock solid 1.802V

        funny they may do them by hand. i would suggest you first inspect the rand of the whole panel specially from downside. it may had crack where the + go in. i faced this before..

          Re: LG 65EC970V 65EC9700 - OLED TCON bad fpga voltage?

          I measured voltages on connectors on downside of panel. There seems to be no short circuits:

          EVDD = 24.08 V
          SVDD_L = 16.00 V
          SVCC1.8 = 1.79 V
          VPRED = 6.05 V
          VPRER = 0.30 V
          VPRES = 0

          Left side photo attached, right side has the same measurements (altrough SVDD_R = 16.00V)

          After 1 minute power up:
          With panel ribbons connected 34.9 W on power cord
          with panel ribbons disconnected 30.2 W on power cord

          So not driven panel takes some power.. but definitely no shorts circuits.

          How can I examine for cracks on panel? It looks not openable to get to COF without destruction. It's my own TV for some time, panel definetly has not been physically damaged by hit or water; no other people played with it when it stoped working, just me.

          YB_CONF_DONE testpoint goes high in about 500ms after power up, so UC2 (right ALTERA) indicate to configure properly from serial memory, and goes warm after some time.

          Ideally will be if someone confirm that both Altera IC got warm after while, or better to measure if M_CONF_DONE testpoint goes high too for UC1 (left ALTERA) on similar OLED T-Con. On my T-com it doesn't and don't know if it is normal condition. Maybe I will look after Altera Blaster JTAG to check if FPGAs are alive.. TMS TDO TCK TDI jtag points can be found on board.

          Similar T-Cons with two BIG FPGAs were used in EC, EF and EG series 4k OLEDs; I will be glad if anybody could test it.

            good to hear the set belong to you.. could you tell how this happen at warm start the picture went out or as cold start no picture.

            we need to be sure now the Video Signal feeding via LVDS. could you upload the service manual you talked on at first post to follow what you wrote of volts measure

                another TIPS. to be sure of the MB give signal of Picture. use Scard cable witth full pins contact. in & out and plug it at other tv with scard IN to watch yours LG picture if it displayed or not not.
                in case there are picture.. then do factory condition reset .. with command IN_STOP not via setting menu. this TV from start suffer from disappearing picture or freezing..

                  No picture happened at cold start few days later from last use. I used it for few hours a week. Just only sound from cable tv. TV is normally operable by remote control. Panel was in very good condition, no any burned pixels. Last time I've checked at service menu, UTT was about 1450 hours, so not very much at all. It may have maybe 100 hours more right now, played by me for last half a year.

                  There are two "Lock" (exactly there are three) LEDs on boards, which indicates good LVDS signal between boards (closed loop alike) as I mentioned earlier. Next board is returns confirmation signal to previous board, about good signal and integrity of it. And it works as supposed, when I loose LVDS cable no light from LED. Like in attached drawing.

                  Good idea with scart cable, but I don't have one right now.

                  Service manual in attachment.

                    i think you stop now do any further until you prove with scart cable..
                    you can also do full discharge of the set. PSU. T-CON and driver- MB also don't forget the IN-STOP only if you have picture via scart to reprogram it again to your cable TV after hard reset

                      Hello, I'm back after few days. Finally I got proper scart output converter and connected to second TV via euro scart cable. Picture and sound from cable TV connected to oled, and transferred to second TV is ok. But it looks that OSD from oled is not transmitted over scart cable, only pure picture and sound. I think it's normal, because even if I do volume up or down on oled, it is changing sound level on oled TV only. On second TV sound is always on the same level. Volume control on oled doesn't affect on sound in oled scart output.

                      I would focus on T-CON, because it looks abnormal if one of two FPGAs isn't running as I wrote earlier. However, I am not 100% sure about that. Ideally would be if some one could check specific TP voltages on other similar T-CON from EC, EF, EG or 6 series OLED (some of them had almost identical twin ALTERA FPGA t-con board)

                        Hi haloon

                        This is my first OLED TV i am repairing also have the same fault as yourself. All the menus work 100% on screen but as soon as i go to LIVE TV no picture but sound OK. Also tried Youtube app and menus are fine but once the video feed starts the picture goes. I was thinking T-Con board. Or even a component level part to replace would be great.

                        If you managed to repair your TV was was the fault. Many thanks in advance.

                          Hi There,

                          This TV was auto switching off after few seconds with some vertical lines on the screen, so got a new TCON board and replaced it.

                          After replacing the TCON board it was working fine and i set it up with everything, used for few hours, then had the bright idea to update the software on it. During the update process, TV switched off and now no audio or video. No relay switch sound.

                          by Tynan Dill
                          I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

                          Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

                          I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

                          The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

                          With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                          This thread is about trying to get an Universal Main Board to work with a Sharp TCON and panel.

                          I have a Sharp LC-46D85UN TV that has had a main board issue. Since this model is from 2009, I am not able to find an exact replacement of the main board. Instead, I decided to see if I can future proof this tv by getting a Universal Main Board (T53U21.2) from China to work with the Sharp TCON (CPWBX4291TPZA) and panel. The universal main board supports a 8 bit dual channel LVDS interface whereas the TCON requires a 10 bit dual channel LVDS input. I have modded the LVDS connector to match...
