    LG42LK430 Discoloured Vertical Bar

    Hi

This is my first time working on something like this, so I hope that my terminology etc. is correct.

I saved the LG TV from the junk pile. It displays a magenta bar down about a quarter of the screen. The PSU and mainboard seems to be in perfect order as sound, video and back light works.

I found some infidelity on the ribbon cable connecting the mainboard to the T-Con (if I push it the wrong way, the picture will disappear).

The bar will display whether the T-Con is connected to the mainboard or not. The cables between the T-Con and the LCD drivers are OK. I tested this by exchanging them.

Is this likely to be an issue with the T-Con, the LCD driver or is the panel doomed?

    Thanks in advance

Probably one of the tab bonds going to the panel. You will need to remove the shield/bezel covering it. May be fixed by applying pressure with a shim. If not, the boards are all good and can be resold. Can probably find some youtube videos if you search.

It turns out that the is the ribbon cable connection on the driver board is faulty. Applying pressure can resolve the issue, but it is temporary. I am experimenting with some shims to push it down when the bezel is screwed back into position. Thus far I could not find a reliable solution.

Do I understand correctly that these ribbon cables are glued onto the PCB, or do they use some solder that can be redone?

        Thanks in advance

They are not replaceable without an advanced rebonding machine. Sadly the screen is scrap.

Sony 8K XBR-75Z8H White Screen Vertical Bars Tcon Code. Help Needed🙏
              by Daren87
              Hello everyone,

I've recently been given a Sony 8k Z8H. It's got a white screen with two vertical black bars. At times it's given me the 5 blink Tcon code. Testing voltage on the Tcon I can see some low or missing voltage. I've done a basic visual check of cables and the COF. Not seeing anything obvious. The original Tcon seemed to have good caps until turning it over. On the bottom I found maybe 10 caps with both sides of the caps shorting to ground. I thought ok these caps and likely other components on the Tcon are shorted so let's try a replacement Tcon. I just received the...

General Questions on the Relationship Between Mainboard, TCON and Panel
              by mmartell
My goal here is to be able to use boards on hand to swap into faulty sets when the faulty board is not obvious.

I will start by asking what is the format of the output from the mainboard and is it generic in any way or does it vary by manufacturer and/or model ?

And as far as I know a tcon and panel must be a matching pair because the timing of the signals and the voltages required to drive the panel are specific to the panel itself. (That may be a blanket statement that isn't true in some cases where the panel creates its own sub-voltages on its panel boards?)...

Driving a Sharp TCON/panel with a universal main board
              by advant
This thread is about trying to get an Universal Main Board to work with a Sharp TCON and panel.

I have a Sharp LC-46D85UN TV that has had a main board issue. Since this model is from 2009, I am not able to find an exact replacement of the main board. Instead, I decided to see if I can future proof this tv by getting a Universal Main Board (T53U21.2) from China to work with the Sharp TCON (CPWBX4291TPZA) and panel. The universal main board supports a 8 bit dual channel LVDS interface whereas the TCON requires a 10 bit dual channel LVDS input. I have modded the LVDS connector to match...

1/3rd of screen black with occasional vertical lines - repair attempt for learning! - Kogan KALED58RT9220SVA

Thanks for offering your assistance with this. I'm an electronics enthusiast with moderate level of competence (have a decent lab with two power supplies, microscope, DSO, hot air, good iron, can competently work at a component level on SMDs, design and solder own PCBs etc). I really enjoying fixing things and learning new stuff so took up a free 58" LED TV and have been googling and watching Youtube videos to see if I can fix this! I am happy to go down to individual component replacement/strip replacement etc - it's all in the name of learning.

The issues are as follows: the...

un60j620dafxza - Samsung No Display Problem
              by stylishconsultant
              Hi All,

              Need help.

I have a samsung un60j620dafxza led tv. When I plug it in it has no display, no sounds, and no standby lights.

So I opened the tv and disconnected the power to the mainboard and the backlight powered up. This according to many people says that this is a mainboard
problem. I checked the voltage coming from the stb and I read 1.3 volts on pins 1,3,5 and 7 which are low volts instead of 13 volts which i think the lcd panel
might be drawing too much power from the power supply that it prevents the right voltage going to the mainboard....
