Look very closely at cap C975 on the top of the lower buffer board. It looks fractured to me, diagonally from the brown spot.

On the Y-sus board perform a continuity check on resistor R559, circled in light blue, in both directions. Does it test open in one direction and very high resistance in the other?

Check the transistors Q507, Q552 and Q553 under the heat sink, outlined in red, in diode check mode. Do you get any abnormal low readings, like .170 or close?

      I've just checked them.

Resistor has no connectivity either way.

      I'm not sure if I've checked the transistors correctly, but they read as follows;
      Q507 positive left, negitive right - 1.5
Positive left, negative centre - 1.734
Negative centre, positive right - 0.508

Q552 same order as above. 0.886
      1.114
      0.397

      Q553 0.084
      0.095
      0.012

      Thanks

Re: LG 60PB6600-UA No picture, whine from PSU

This is a common failure for this set. Although the mode of failure is not fully understood it appears either C873 and/or C975 shorts and takes out Q552/553 which causes fusible resistor R559 to go open, or Q552/553 shorts out, causes R559 to go open and takes out C873 and/or C975.

It is necessary to replace Q507/552/553 with this failure along with R559 and check diodes D556 and 557 on the Y-sus. I would also replace both C873 and C975 on both buffer boards since both are probably stressed during this failure.

This thread should give you more information: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...light=60pb6650

When I replace SMD caps like those I use two soldering irons, one on each side of the cap, make sure the solder is melted then pluck the cap off the board using both soldering irons like a pincer.

My TV had the same symptoms as yours, but the only question that remains in my mind is the whiny power supply. I'd check the PSU for cold/cracked solder joints especially on the transistors and transformers first, just to make sure the PSU is tip-top before you power it up after the fix is applied.

Thank you very much for the help, I really appreciate it.

I will look into getting those replaced.
having a hard time finding 2sk3773 transistors. and is the C975 the same capacitance as C873? If so, I am only finding either 3.9nf or 4.7nf capacitors.

          Cheers!

C975 and C873 are both the same.

I will try to find my order from Digikey and see if I can get you the numbers of the parts I bought

Nikon D800 camera - flash don’t work and capacitor don’t charge
                  by corrize
                  Hello, I'm stuck in troubleshooting…
The flash system works like that : when the (mechanic) flash button is pressed, the flash mecanically pop up, and a circuit buck boost elevate 7v (batt) to 200-300v (?) for charging the big capacitor. And when the photo shoot button is pressed, the capacitor is discharged in the xeon light.

In the D800, there is a first « power board » close to the battery. 2 wires (batt 7v) goes to another little « flash board ». I measured 7v, so ok.
When I press the flash button, it's detected by the system, flash icon appear on LDC display....

T-con suspect issue. Both ribbon cables no picture. One ribbon cable ok. (58pus8545)

Hi guys! I realized you have a lot of knowledge here so i am hoping you could point me in right direction with my odd issue.

The Tv is a Philips 58PUS8545/12, it had no picture but working backlights.

                  Original T-con:
Opened the Tv and tested to unplug one ribbon cable at a time. With this test i could see that i got fine picture on both halves as long as there was only one ribbon cable connected, with two connected picture were gone.

                  First replacement T-con:

I thought it might be t-con and ordered new t-con from china(supposedly tested)...

I need help with my friend Sony GDM-FW900 24” CRT
                  by matthewmcconaughey
Hello, Badcaps is my last resort. I am the first owner of the monitor. I reached almost every repair store in my area, but no one even wanted to hear about troubleshooting an old CRT monitor. At this point, I have been trying to figure it out by myself, but I have no idea where to start or look for.

I wish to know how to think and locate a failing component. I will put all my efforts to learn and contribute.
                  1. It started with a bright and greenish picture upon starting a cold monitor.

Help Disabling Flash Protection Range Registers on Lenovo P360 Tiny BIOS
                  by abhorsen
                  Hey guys,

Hope you all are doing well. I come here from Win-Raid because I am having issues disabling Flash Protection Range Registers so I can flash my BIOS from within Windows using Intel's IFW tool/using flashrom within Linux, however I cannot due to the above mentioned error.

Here is my thread on Win-Raid detailing the whole process I went through: https://winraid.level1techs.com/t/re...h-gen/95478/27

Essentially I managed to boot into Windows while shorting PINs 1+5 of my audio chip to disable the HAP bit...

Philips 58PUS7805/12 showed no picture; after T-Con replacement, shows halo
                  by Rauni
Hello, this is my first post on this forum, and my first attempted to repair a TV.

My Philips 58PUS7805/12 stopped working recently. It is not that old, about 5 years. We were on a trip for a few days and when we came back, it had stopped working out of a blue (Perhaps our house was hit by a lightning strike? Don't know.)

Read from a guide that I should test if the screen shows picture with one of the T-Con cables disconnected. Did that, it showed perfect picture (first on left, later on right side).

Read also that we should test what happens if we...
