Hello all ~
I picked up this large, 58" plasma set and it has two problems that I need to fix.
1) POWER SUPPLY ~ TV KEEPS SHUTTING DOWN + REPEATED CLICKING
I can turn it on and it will operate normally and display channels (with the DirecTV signal hooked up through one of the HDMI ports) but it turns itself off after about a minute.
Sometimes it will stay on for two minutes or even three, but it always shuts itself down and then the relays on the Power Supply Board begin to click while the screen is entirely black. It's obviously attempting to turn itself back on, as evidenced by the fact that every once in a while during my testing it will indeed come back and display a picture .... but for only a few seconds before shutting down and the repeated clicking begins again.
I took the back off and visually inspected all of the capacitors and there is no obvious bulging or leaking on any of them. Hopefully, the pictures I posted will convey that. Please let me know if they are clear enough.
I then unhooked all of the connectors coming off of the Power Supply Board to try to isolate the problem. When they are all unhooked, the tv does not turn on at all when plugged in. Then, I hooked up the connector from the Power Supply Board to the Main Board ONLY. This single connection / combination produced the same sequential turn on / shut down after a minute or two / clicking that plagues it just the same when all of the connectors coming off the power supply are active and in play.
So, does this tell me that the problem lies in the Main Board? Or, perhaps the problem is actually on the Power Supply Board itself but that only reveals itself when the connection to the Main Board is made? I think alot of these Samsung sets will not operate at all unless at least the connection to the Main Board or Logic Board is made.
I'm hoping that this is a relatively common problem that others on the forum can help me isolate down to one particular board. And then go from there.
2) SCREEN PARTIALLY DAMAGED BY SCRATCHES
It also has suffered some rather deep scratches on the screen that I have attempted to take out but with limited success. I used isopropyl alcohol and that helped a bit. Followed that with the use of a rubber eraser, and that helped some more. But, all in all, the scratches are still quite noticeable both with the set turned off and when the picture on the screen does come on during my testing.
Does anyone have any more ideas on how to lessen these scratch marks? I don't expect that I can fully eliminate them, but I'd like to get it to the point where they are negligible.
Thanks, in advance, for your replies.
(Sorry for the various orientations of the photos below. I'm not sure why the site keeps rotating them as a result of the upload process. Can this be fixed by the site administrators?)
