    Sony kdl-40w590: 5-blink code

I have this one from E-recycle sitting around for about month so I decide to take a look at it today.
It has 5-blink code for T-CON error, so first thing I check is the 2A fuse on the integrated T-CON board, sure enough the fuse is blown.
I check the resistance on the output side of the fuse, it shows <1 Ohm so I start checking the cap and the protection diode right next to the fuse. I remove the diode but the shorts is still there, so I remove the cap right next to the Diode then the shorts went away, the resistance against GND is now showing around 10K Ohms. I am very lucky that the first cap I removed is the bad one otherwise there will a lot of probing and may involve using power supply or using super low Ohm meter for tracing for the shorted parts.
I also check the backights setting, it looks like the old owner already had it set to 6 for all inputs.

      Re: Sony kdl-40w590: 5-blink code

Well, 1 month later the TV went out right in front of my eyes while watching it, the image just slowly wiped out by black cloud, the backlights is still on. There is no error code this time.
Took it at apart, the fuse and the 12VDC is still present, then I use my Ohm meter to start checking for bad MLC caps again, I get to the AVDD testpoint and it shows 29 Ohms in both directions, there are 4 caps, C03 ~ 06 connected to the AVDD output. I remove the C03 first but AVDD still shows 29 Ohms, then remove C04 then the AVDD show 6K Ohms so I got lucky again. I check the capacitance of C03 it shows about 10uf. I remove all 4 caps and replaced them with 10uf 35V, TV is up and running again. I sure hate to see other MLCC fail later but not much I can do since no way I will replace them all. Ohms meter is your friend.
I also look some application notes, most of them use two 22uF 35V caps in parallel for the AVDD.
It only take 1/2 hours this time to fix this darn TV. I am sure a lot of this model with this panel have the same problem.

A funny fuse story – Lumix LX100 II
        by corrize
Hello, I disassembled this dead camera, and found this WTF… Two fuses soldered one above the other !
I was pretty sure nobody touched it before, but that can't be from factory. There is flux, and capacitor is probably missing.
        The other weird thing : the fuses are « G » fuse : (0.75A – 8V), seems very low. The original fuse should be « O » : (32V 2,5A).
There is « O » mark beside. All fuses have the same mark letter on main board. So, I can deduce it's a « O » fuse.
And this correspond to the issus I saw : when I plug the battery, I measure the voltage dropping...

        Sony KDL-46HX850 Can't upgrade/update firmware
        by dkneyle
Diagnosed this TV as having a failed main board which I've replaced with one from a KDL 55HX850. They are (supposedly) the same board.

Being 'Smart TV' it requires a firmware reboot when you swap out boards such as T-Con or main board. It starts with a black screen and flashing yellow and green LEDS, indicating it needs that firmware boot. The procedure described all over the web is to put the software into the root directory of a FAT32 formatted USB drive and it should load that up once plugged into USB1 port. But not for me. I can see the LED on the USB chip flash for about...

Samsung UE46ES8000 Blown fuse but no other signs of short
        by jesterace
Hi I wonder if anyone might be able to steer me in the right direction. I have this Samsung UE46ES8000 TV and it went bang during use. The main fuse on the PSU board is open. I've checked every diode/mosfet/transistor I can see and nothing appears to be short to cause the fuse to go. The DC output of the bridge rectifier is not short either. I've seen online that some of these models are known for having their PFC mosfet or other mosfets shorting and blowing the fuse but i'm not seeing that here. If anyone aware of these models having any issues to cause this? I'm reluctant to just replace the...
