Onkyo NR609 usual Dolby/DTS DSP failure
    by tony359
    Hi all,

I have a TX-NR609 which shows the usual issue with the DSP on the HDMI board.

How do I know? I managed to revive it with heat. Then it failed again. I reballed it, it lasted 3 months then failed again for good.

I ordered one from China - not knowing that
    1. It's likely fake
    2. It's likely pulled from another broken machine
    3. There is a revised version which does not fail, which was never sold outside of OEMs so unlikely to be found online

I installed it and it didn't work.

    The bottom line is...

Acer Aspire 5 A514-55 - won't power on, no charger LED, battery not flat - usual suspects?
    by DenK
Dear all, I am trying to troubleshoot an Acer Aspire 5 A514-55 that won't power on. I'll describe the symptoms and my findings so far, and I would like to seek guidance and suggestions on possible suspects in terms of cause/component failure. My initial thoughts are battery charger IC and/or ideal diode/MOSFET (that switches between incoming DC and battery power), but I could be totally wrong on this.
    1) Laptop was working fine on battery, then user realised battery was running low. Plugged in AC adapter but noticed it was not charging (LED on AC adapter plug did not light). Eventually shut down

    ASUS X99-A, usual 00 code, ME voltage 1.4 instead of 1.05 ...
    by saronno
As the title say, this is pretty common proble with x99 board.
Since the 1.05 ME voltage was too high, I suspect PCH is damaged ... but anyway, I want to give it a try bypassing the PS chip .... the idea came up
reading this post on a chinese bbs ...

I think he is right .... but I already try and the board, this time, shut off immediately (voltages here is 1.05 not 1.5 .... he probably got confused).

    Note:In case you ask yourself...

Difficulty trying to match ESR of a replacement capacitor
    by Ady2017
    Hi all

I am trying to find a replacement capacitor for a CapXon KM 100uF 400V. I have read that the big ones really go wrong but it is the last one left on the power supply board that has not been changed and the TV is still playing up so it is getting swapped too.

I have read that I need to find a replacement cap with the same or higher ripple and the same or lower ESR, with all the usual being matched. The ripple is easy to match but the ESR seems to be a challenge.

From the KM datasheet I have got, dissipation factor = 15% (therefore 0.15).
    I have...

    Retro DC Bench Power Supply
    by Brendon@aa
Hi, pretty new to repair and have an OLD benchtop DC power supply with no output. There is no voltage showing on the volt meter display however the current meter is full scale at 5a when on the 2a limit setting and 1.35a when on the 500ma setting.

230V AC is making it past the fuse and into the main transformer - a yellow pair on the secondary has 30VAC on it, Brown pair 37V, there is what I think is a centre tap coming from the main transformer in green that has 15V and 20V respectively from the yellow and brown windings.
From there the power dives into what looks like a control...
