So, there were 3 bad resistors on the key control board. One was a 20k, two were 3k. I was able to find a 20k on another board. Couldn't find any and 3k resistors, but I did have some 1.5k through hole resistors. As you can see from the pictures, I made it work with what I had. My girl will be quite happy to get this back tomorrow. The only bad thing is she wants to keep the 32" Seiki I loaned her. I should have seen that coming.

I just knew it had something to do with that goo.

Solved! It was the conductive goo that dripped into the connector. Pulled all the wires out of the connector and cleaned everything real good, now it works perfectly again.

I think I might have it figured out. The wire connector going into the IR sensor board has some of that oily stuff in it, and it's conductive. With the harness removed from the TV and nothing connected I should see OL when probing different wires, but instead I'm seeing between 1MΩ and 20MΩ. I'm going to clean it up and see what difference it makes.

Yes, not very likely the eeprom, I just saw it was available from shopjimmy.

I'm on my way to get it now. As for the eeprom, I thought that at first, but then it started working fine for a couple days. With a corrupted eeprom I'd expect it to remain faulty until it was replaced.

I removed that board completely yesterday. Still doing it. I'm going to pick the TV up in a few minutes and then I can do some actual testing. Below is a pic of the switch board. I definitely see some bad resistors. As for the switches, I have some of them, brand new, because I needed one for my car alarm remote once and ordered like 25.

I asked her if she spilled something in it, or sprayed it with anything. She said no and she bought it new. There's places where the plastic is bubbled too. It sat in a Uhaul storage room for almost 2 years. Steel building and no climate control. That probably didn't help.

So, the TV worked normal for a few days, then started randomly turning up to 100 with nobody touching the remote. I opened it up and disconnected the key control board, but it didn't change anything. What I did find is a brown oily condensation inside the TV. I'm pretty sure it's leaching out from the plastic. Pictures attached. It's totally unwatchable now so I'm going to give her something else and then try to figure out what is causing this. I think maybe a failing component on the IR sensor board. Since the key control passes through it, maybe maybe something along it's path is bad. Maybe whenever the IR sensor is on, it's providing a path to ground for some other failed component. Idk. I'll probably have it in the shop tonight and then I can do some actual testing and troubleshooting.

So, at least for the moment, the TV has gone back to normal. That rules out the EEPROM. I think maybe since the button board was causing problems originally, and it runs through the IR sensor board, that maybe I'll try disconnecting it if the problem reappears.

From looking at pictures on eBay, it appears the button board connects through the IR sensor. Unfortunately, I can't open the TV until I get her a loner. If I leave her all day without a TV, I may not have a home to go back to.

I have a 47" LG which needs an LED repair, and I just found a complete backlight assembly in my scrap pile, so I'll probably get that together for her and then start troubleshooting the Haier.

Vizio D65x-G4 Volume changes on its own
    by karthur
On this Vizio D65x, the volume will change on its own. I don't mean like during commercials where the volume will increase. I mean its like the (+) volume button on the remote is pressed and the actual volume dialog is displayed on the screen going up. It will do this, then the volume may start going down. It might go all the way to "0"or it might stop at a different number, then start going back up. The whole time its doing this, the volume dialog is shown on the screen.

It wont do it until it has been "ON" for 20 or 30 minutes, so it does seem to be heat related....

Sony HCD-HX80R Amplifier Volume Control Problem
    by crackedprint
I have a strange fault on a Sony amplifier. The volume control varies the display from MIN, then 1 up to 30 and then MAX as expected. At MIN there is no sound. However, at 1 it is quite loud and increasing above 1 does not change the sound level.

I have tried a Cold Reset as per the service manual.

I have looked at the I2C clock and data to volume control chip IC501 (BD3499FV). Data is only sent to IC501 when the volume is set to MIN or 1. At any other setting no data is sent to IC501.

I have looked all the way through the service manual and tried many online...

Marantz SR5007 popping on volume change and mute in Direct Mode
    by BigOof
    Hi,

I bought a used Marantz SR5007 and it's giving me some issues that I can't seem to really place. It functions well in most settings, ARC mostly works, it has no issues driving my speakers in any of the digital input modes, but I'm having issues running analog inputs in direct or pure direct mode. For some reason in this mode there's distortion for every volume increment I give it, but once the volume is stable it has no issues. Muting creates a loud pop, switching to another source also causes a pop and so does turning off the amp in that mode. Again, no issue in the digital modes....

Samsung Soundbar Q900T Cuts Off if Volume above 30
    by Storyteller12
I have this soundbar and when I turn it on it works until I turn the volume above 30.
Then the display show “PROT” protection and shuts off.

I can turn it right back on and it works until volume hits 30 again.

There is a little static on the surround speakers so I unplugged them but still have same problem. I tried unplugging all speakers also and when volume goes above 30 it shuts off.

I can turn the volume above 30 if nothing is playing but as soon as I play something it shuts off.

It will play fine for hours with volume...

TCL 50S425 Roku TV Boot Loop
    by grimacelord
Hello again. This time it's a TCL 50S425 Roku TV that is stuck in a boot loop.

The TV will power on, display the TCL logo for a few moments, and then the TV restarts in an endless loop. It sounds to me like corrupt firmware.

    So far, I have:

    1. Disconnected the power cable and pressed and held the power button down for 30 seconds and tried powering on again - No change.

    2. Pressed and held the RESET button for up to 60 seconds. - No change.

    3. Tried disconnecting power cable in the middle of one of it's loops,...
