    LG 47LV5500-UA TV display problem

    Hello,

My dear TV, an LG 47LV5500-UA stopped working "normally" yesterday for no apparent reason.

I have sound, but entire display is weird with vertical lines and misaligned images (not solarization, but rather fuzzy unsharp picture), you can see the images but it's completely fuzzy/off...
The issue also happens on the TV menus and all inputs / channels.

I Can't afford a new TV and really would like to fix this few years old out of warranty TV...
I don't have much to lose at this point... I know it's hard to diagnose but with your help, I'm sure I can follow "detailed" direction and get it back to life !

The attachement show up the issue. I hope it's an easy fix (replacement part only)

    Thank you

Appears to be a faulty LVDS connection on the wire that goes between the main board and the T con. I suppose it could also be a bad main board
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

+1, I would try re-seating the cables between T-CON and the Main board, also make sure all the circuit boards mounting screws are tight.

Re: LG 47LV5500-UA TV display problem

Thank you all for the posts, so to clarify:

1/ I will do a factory reset (is that really needed? or we know for a fact that is not the root cause and won't fix my problem)
2/ Re-seat cable between T-Con and main board

If you could provide any link so that I know where to locate the T-CON, I will definitely do that

3/ If re-seatting the cable doesn't work, I shall purchase a new MAIN BOARD... and that will for sure fix it?

Did I get it right or it could still potentially be something else?

I'll try all that as soon as I get a chance and will keep you posted with my findings... You guys rock for replying so fast... much appreciated

Tough call, I like to try a factory reset to see if it helps before I have to take the back off, Freakaftr8 is right, you should re-seat, it does seem like a tcon connection or tcon or mainboard problem.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdYeC12zfGY shows location of tcon, usuall under a plate at top or bottom of back of tv, after you remove the back cover, 4 little screws holding it down.

Re: LG 47LV5500-UA TV display problem

OK, so the reset didn't do anything nor did resetting all the cables.
I now also know where the TCON is located.
There's basically 3 electronic boards behind this TV:

1 in the center / middle = Brown color where power supply goes to
1 on the right = GREEN color, I understand that is the main board?
1 at the center bottom behind a metallic plate (TCON I understand)

So, what do you recommend next in order of priority ? Replacing main board or Tcon ?

I also found videos about baking the main board at 385 for 10 min and letting it cool off slowly resulting in miraculous reviving of TV !!!

Thank you for your experienced / technical feedback

What is your full panel number, should be on the back metal part of tv once you take the back off, if it's LC420EUD-SDF2, then shop jimmy appears to have one that will work, read the page carefully, there's a video there too. Might be tcon might be mainboard, tcon is cheaper, if it turns out not to be the tcon, it's always nice to have a spare.

I was able to take off the TCON board, I don't see anything wrong but then again I have no idea what to look for in regards to defect...
Thank you for the links, I'll try to put my hands on one of those parts and hope it will do the trick.
If that still doesn't work... It means it's the main board... so baking the main board would have to be my next alternative.... I really hope a tcon replacement fixes it.
Thank you and please keep me posted if anything new comes to mind

I replaced the TCON, no changes ... What's next step, try the BAKING technique or buy a main board... Please let me know links on the main board as I want to make sure it's the correct unit if so... I'm so sad... I liked that freakn TV...

Re: LG 47LV5500-UA TV display problem

Baking a main board is usually for dead units, and if you pay attention to the video the recommended temperatures aren't enough to melt solder. Even if it works it's likely a temporary fix.

If you are dead set (no pun intended) on baking it DON'T do it in your house oven. Obtain a toaster oven and do it out of the living area, don't hope for a miracle and plan on retiring the toaster oven.

I would go ahead and order a replacement if it was me.

Shame, only 8K hrs on it.

There is a part number on the main board, could be a label or could be printed on the board. Plug your model number in to Shopjimmy.com. When the page comes up look to the left for "main board" and click on it. When the page comes up, match the mainboard number to yours and voila!

You can always plug the board number in to Google and I'm sure you will get matches. Just check the warranty and return policy before ordering anything. Try to stick with Shopjimmy if you can because they have integrity when it comes to necessary returns.

If it were me I'd follow the earlier advice and check the cable connections again. It's easy to miss things if your experience level is as a beginner. The only reason I know what a bad contact looks like is from a little electronics experience (and I do mean a little) and from dealing with them on cars as a master tech.

One there for 100 bucks free shipping, seems pricey, there is a make offer option, wherever you get one match up the numbers or contact seller and tell them your numbers, they should be able to tell you if it is a match, most sellers want to sell you the right board so they don't get a lot of returns.

Looks like you need to match up the suffix/last two letters, there's three, yours will be one of these: AUSYLHR
                                        AUSYLJR
                                        AUSYLUR
