How to clean a TV ( Plasma ) from smoke and nicotine

    Hi All,

This one is more genal question rather then a repair question ... but to avoid to make some mistakes which could end ab in a disaster I would like to ask you first.

I've bougnt an used Plasma (TX-P46VT30) . The previous owner smoked a lot and the TV smells very strong .

After cleaning the usual parts (Front and Backcover) I also would like to clean the PCB (Maingoard, Power Supply, etc.)

    - How should I do this?
    - Would Isopropol Alcohol do it?
    - Are there any other electronic cleaner usefull?
    - Should I bathe the PCBs in in?
    - If yes, how long should I let them dry?

    hmmm... never done it before.

    Kind Regards

This panel has anti reflection coating that is glued to the glass , same idea as the glass that is glued to the LCD panels on samsung/apple mobiles. They used uv glue for that.
So a good chance the smoke has gotten into the coating which you cant get rid of unless you remove the coating. ( I did it before but you get a shiny panel ).

You could try to clean the boards a little with alcohol but the smell will never get out of the boards. Definately dont bath them!!

Your best bet is to remove all the boards and dust and clean the tv from the inside. I would clean the fans inside , they are dust collectors and they spread the "smoke smell" into the air.

Ps , reflow the solder pads under the SCboard ( board on the left ). You will see the pads are a bit dark.
Replace the screws for screws with lockwashers.

You need to do this or your second hand tv wont work for a long time....

Search the forums for "7 blinks"

        Thank You Moreno,

        I'll do so.

        Just seen it's a typo; It's a

        TX-P46VT20E

It had a Error Code 11 (faulty fans - all three of them) and I got it for 30 €.

        Kind regards

Panasonic Plasma 2008 TH-42PV/PX series - Removing the coating from the Front Glass
            by tongshadow
I got this set for very cheap, it works perfectly but the catch is that the protective coating was damaged. About 45% of the screen had a green tint, you can see exactly where the layer changed colors to a blueish tone (that actually makes everything green).

"Ok, that's probably just the anti-glare layer" - I thought. So using a microfiber cloth and automotive metal polish I was easily able to turn it into a nice mirror.

Unfortunately, the damage was beyond this layer and everything still had a horrible green tint. I initially...

Conformal coating on Samsung U32D970 monitor PSU, do I need to replace after repair?
            by psyduck
I have a Samsung U32D970 monitor from 2015 I pulled out of the bad hardware pile that turned on and then turned itself back off after a few minutes of use and refused to turn back on. The PSU has part number BN44-00786A, and I found a couple posts about one that had blown with damage to the MOSFETs and PWM controller - but nothing about intermittent failures. I started a new thread and said that I would refresh the solder joints on the board to see if it was just a bad connection and possibly replace the PWM and PFC ICs. I then asked what my next course of action would be after those steps. I...

            Hello,
I am having Samsung PS51E550 Plasma TV. While the TV was working, a crackling sound heard & video went off with audio still ON. After switching it off & ON, the red LED on TV blinks six times & then off.
Opened TV cover & observed foll
            a) Green LED on the small PCB blinks at @5-6sec ON & off for 3-4 secs. Red LED on logic board ON
b)Vs & Va on power supply board raises momentarily to 209v & 58v resp & then drops.
            c) Cold test on Y-main board shows all 3 pins of FGPF4536 IGBT short to Grnd.
How to confirm Y -Buffer board...

            Panasonic plasma TX-P42ST50 - 6 blinks
            by jm1234
            Hi,
anyone able to provide the service manual for old plasma Panasonic TX-P42ST50E?
It turns off almost immediately (0~5 seconds after pressing the on/off button) and starts flashing the red diode 6 times.
I disconnected the left-hand side board (SC?, both the ribbon cable and the power cable to it) and also another ribbon going to bottom left board. Then the led signal is 8 flashes. According to service guide to another Panasonic plasma it would mean the left-hand side board is faulty. But I'm not sure it 100% applies to my model.
I checked that board for any obvious faults...
