    LG 50PA6500 Problem

I picked up this LG plasma 50PA6500 with a suspected power problem. The previous owner said it would run for a few minutes and then turn itself off. Pretty typical for anyone who does this sort of thing regularly.

In actuality, when I get it home, it's doing something a bit different.

When I plug the power cord in, the set clicks once, flashes a bright screen (not white but bright backlighting) and then stays at a dim black screen, as if the backlighting is on but there is no image. The weird part is that I can't turn it off. Either with the remote or the hard button. The tv does not respond to any input and will not turn off without unplugging the power cord. There is no sort of startup indication, i.e. a jingle tone , menu image, channel indicator, nothing. Plug in the power cord, single click, bright momentary flash, then dim backlight, that's all.

I haven't opened it up yet, but I'm wondering if anyone has had this issue, especially not being able to turn it off. I've repaired many different types of TV's but never one I couldn't turn off. Strange!

    Any ideas?

I forgot to add that the power/standby light is solid red the entire time. no flashing at all.

      Update:

I have 205v on VS and 55v on VA.

I checked the board that has all the pushbuttons on it (I forget what it's called) and all the buttons seem to function properly.

I've gone through all the connections and made sure everything was seated well.

The buffer boards are functioning as you'd expect. Unplug and half the screen goes black and vice versa.

Nothing I've done changes the fact that I can't turn the set off without unplugging the cord.

I don't know if that is connected to the fact that there is no image on the screen or not.

I'm stumped. All the power circuits seem to working properly but I've made no improvement, or even change for that matter.

      Anyone?

        Update:

I found another post that had a trick for troubleshooting that I tried.

I unplugged the ribbon cable that runs from the main board to the control board and I jumpered out the 2 test points.

The display start showing a test pattern. Full white screen, full red screen, full green screen, etc.

The post where I found the tip said that this result narrow down the problem to a faulty main board.

Has anyone done any repairs to a main board before?

Could be an EEPROM issue. Also could be a faulty voltage regulator.
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

Would there be any measurements that would point me to a voltage regulator? I seem to have all the different voltages I'm supposed to.

Can you post a picture of the main board? What is PS on doing when you plug the TV in?

I'm not sure what PS on is.

Try heating up ic400 with a hairdryer a little and observe behavior. Also what's the DC voltage reading on IC604 off the big tab. Put black lead of volt meter on frame of tv.

No change when I put my heat gun on IC400.

IC604 read 1.8vdc on the big tab.

                      by theone111
I have an LG Plasma TV 60PM6700 for the past ~12 years.

In the last ~3-4 months I have been having some issues.
                      1. Problem: It started with random picture disappearing (sound still worked).
Frequency: Happened about once a week.
Solution: Had to turn off TV wait a few seconds before turning it on again.
                      2. Problem: Then it got worse and the TV started to shut down and when turning on the no picture just sound.
Frequency: Happened about once a week.
Solution: Had to turn off TV wait about 10-20 seconds and turn it on again to solve.
                      3. Problem: TV shuts down

                      i have a problem with thinkpad X1 carbon gen 2 "LMQ-1MB 12298-2 48.4LY26.021"
The laptop was turned off because the MOSFET was not transmitting voltage. After checking it turned out that the gate pin on the MOSFET was the problem, because it was producing an inappropriate voltage. and it was discovered that the problem was with the Think engine, so I decided to reprint each pin, and finally the mosfet could work properly. However, there is another problem, even though the voltage has been supplied to the laptop, it still won't turn on, there isn't even an LED indicator. After double...

                      Lenovo T580 - LCD Panel problem - error 0288
                      by perzyk23
                      Good morning,
I have a problem with Lenovo T580, which after error code 0288 suggests a problem with the display. I checked the display and it works on another laptop. I replaced the display cable with a new one. I programmed another BIOS (downloaded from this forum) and I still have the problem of a dead display - there is an image via HDMI, and the system does not detect the built-in LCD at all. The problem appears to be hardware. What can I check to confirm or disprove this? I found many threads on the Internet related to this problem 0288, but without specific solutions. Please advise....

                      Dell 15R-5521 keyboard problem (KBC?)
                      by SDNarcia
Hello, I have a Dell 15R-5521, with the problem that the Ctrl, Alt, Shitf and Num Lock keys do not work, I tested the keyboard with a keyboard tester and it is functional, I also got another new keyboard and the computer has the same problem with the same keys. Check continuity between the ZIF connector from the keyboard to the KBC and all pins are correct. I cleaned the ZIF connector and the KBC and I still have the same problem. I reinstalled windows just in case, and it didn't work. I updated the BIOS to the latest version A16 and there were no changes.

                      As additional information,...
