    Samsung UE40F6170 picture ghosting

Good day folks. I'm asking for a bit of advice on an issue I haven't really faced before: I've got a Samsung telly which experiences ghosting, meaning the picture is "slow" to refresh and leaves behind trails or afterimages. The OSD and other still images display fine, but moving images leave behind trails, sort of like when the subject moves away quickly when a film camera snaps a picture. The quicker the transition, the more noticeable the the effect becomes. I tried taking some pictures of the screen myself just to give you an idea of what it looks like, though it's not AS severe as the camera makes it look.

I wasn't even sure what the guy was talking about, because when he brought it in, out of convenience, I first hooked up a laptop over HDMI and the picture was perfect, even the fast moving scenes which he said were all blurry, so at first I was like "WTH is this sh!t ? What's he talking about?". However, when I finally connected the cable, I could indeed notice some blurring going on. It was subtle at first, but the more I watched, the more apparent it became. I thought something was wrong with the main board, or more specifically the tuner, so I figured that replacing the board would take care of both the tuner and other components which may be acting up, but turns out I was wrong: I was just about ready to order a new one, but I stopped just in time, because I didn't want to get it and then find out the issue is something else in that 1% "others" category, so I was ready to bail out and warned my client that a new board may not necessarily solve the issue, but luckily he said he happened to own a second identical TV which works fine which he could bring in so we could swap board around until we'd isolate the fault. It's a good thing I didn't order the board I originally had in mind because even with the main board off the "donor" TV, the ghost image was still there...my diagnosis was incorrect. It was the T-con board all along, because I swapped it as well and the picture was now fine on the "faulty" TV, while the "donor" TV was now having the issue, since the faulty T-con was on it. Such a weird problem, isn't it ? HDMI appears perfect (or it could be ghosting too indeed, but I didn't notice), but cable has this afterimage effect...how does that come down to the T-con board anyway ? I would've suspected the T-con if the effect affected everything, including the OSD and still images, but it only seemed to happen on TV, that's why I scratched it off the list initially. It could be the way the signal is processed or the difference in resolution or something down to the nitty-gritty of the workings of the T-con. Anyway, I know know what's causing such a problem, so hopefully it will help others down the track too so they don't spend time and money ordering main boards, the issue so I will be ordering a new T-con since I was lucky to find it in the same place where I was going to buy the main board, so the mystery is technically solved, but of course in the quest for constant learning about even the most tricky and obscure aspects of TV troubleshooting which is the heart of our wonderful community , the question still remains: what could be causing this issue on a T-con ? Has anyone experienced this before ? Is it even repairable (probably not or not worth the headache).

It is good that the T-CON board can be changed because I have seen some Samsung televisions with the T-con boards bonded to panel which can not be replaced.

Well I believe VGL (probably wrong) is responsible for erasing image. Lacking that moving images are slow to erase and osd would look good. I'm sure tom66 could explain process
I assume no responsibility for any stupid suggestions I might post.

Now that you mention it, it could be something related to VGL and VGH. Yes, VGL (voltage gate low) is what "discharges" the screen so you're right about that as far as I know. Those who are more knowledgeable about the subject are welcome to give their 2 cents as well.

I think the QFN to the left of the heatsink is a DC-DC converter. There's also a voltage regulator top right.
Two BGAs to give a reflow too also maybe ?

P.S. hit enter occasionally. Big walls of text are hard work to read.

The new T-con arrived today, but unfortunately the problem got even worse as this one doesn't display anything AT ALL...it just displays a horrendous mess so either the replacement board is faulty as well or it's not compatible with the panel. Truth be told, although the model on the board is the same, BN41-01939C, this board came from a different TV which has a different, larger panel. My panel is a CY-HF40CSLV2H, whereas this board apparently comes from a CY-KF550DSLV1H....could this be the issue ? Do t-con boards have to match the panel size exactly, or as long as the model is identical it should work, which would confirm it's faulty...I'll probably return it anyway and tell this guy to F-off since I can't find the appropriate board.

When the tcon has a Winbond spi chip I would think accuracy in matching parts becomes more important than usual.

Yeah, it's got a flash SPI on it so it's "smarter" than I thought...that port to the left of the LVDS is probably for programming. I looked through the service menu, but there's no "panel" or "tcon" options to mess around with, even if meant doing it "blindly". I'm in the process of returning this one, taking pictures of the boards to prove I haven't done anything sketchy and sending back a broken one and trying to explain to the guys that it WAS my fault, I apologize and would just like to get it over with

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                  Assuming...

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

Upgrading a Samsung ue55nu7096u with logic board from an ue55ru7105k -- good idea?
                  by ohren
I hope this is the right forum to post in despite not technically being a repair, but still a question of swapping boards.

I thought I'd explore the possibility to upgrade an existing working Samsung ue55nu7096u with the logic board (and power board if needed) of a newer model (ue55ru7105k) of the same size and appearance (and resolution). The reason being I'd like the extra inputs of that board including component in, an extra HDMI port and bluetooth. Its panel is broken so I have no use for the board otherwise.

The models launched in 2018 and 2019 respectively....

Samsung UN55H8000AF - No Picture, Working Backlight, Replaced T-Con Board
                  by ermals
                  Hi all!
I've recently run into an issue with my Samsung UN55H8000AF LED TV displaying no image. I've done quite a bit of research in terms of what could be wrong with it. Below are the steps I've taken prior to reaching out here for some assistance:

                  1. I've tried replacing the T-Con board (BN95-01594A), twice and have still experienced the same issue with all the boards I've tested with.
                  2. I've tried to remove one side of the ribbon cable that goes from the T-Con board to the panel and still not getting any image on left or right side.
                  3. I've checked voltages...
