Vizio E502AR LCD television powers on, then shuts off with a bright VIZIO

This is one headache of an LCD. If anybody else is trying to get into one of these things, the stand has to be unscrewed from the bottom and removed before the back panel can come off .

Anyway, the reason I've cracked into this thing is because it powers on and displays the splash screen, but then the panel and backlights shut off (nothing on screen at all; I checked with a flashlight) after a couple seconds, at which time the VIZIO at the bottom lights up white very brightly. It stays this way until the power button is pressed again, at which point the cycle repeats once more (brief display of splash screen, bright VIZIO).

Do these models shut themselves off like this if the backlights are bad? If not, what would likely be the problem? What does the bright white VIZIO mean?

Have you tried disconnecting the main board and bringing up the leds to ensure you don't have a led fault.
Willing to help but I'm no expert.

I believe these do suffer from eeprom problems.
I assume no responsibility for any stupid suggestions I might post.

I hadn't. Would it just require the jumpering of some connections on the power supply in order to do this?

I saw a video of that on YouTube, but wasn't sure if it applied to this model as well. If the backlights check out, I'll have to explore that more closely.

With the main board disconnected some power supplies will bring on the backlights when powered up otherise you will need to jumper using 1K resistor STBY_3.3V to PS_On pin and possibly a second 1K from STBY_3.3V to BL_ON/OFF.

            Mainboard replacement fixed the problem!

Mainboard was indeed the cause of the issue. Everything is back 100% after replacing it.

My grandparents TV has the exact same problem. We tried holding down the power button for 60 seconds from a youtube posting recommendation after unplugging it, then plugging it back in, but that didn't work. It sounds like it might have a bad board. What would have caused this? Power surge? Drop in voltage? It's behind a surge protector. It was working just fine, we plugged in a coax cable from a VCR/DVD combo so they could watch something since their cable was out, watched the intro on the DVD, then shortly after it powered off and started doing this cycle every time we turn it on. It stays on for about a minute - then the remote stops working, the unit turns off, and the light turns on the front lights up brightly again. Turn it on with the remote or the button on the TV, and it does the exact same thing. I could see the board fixing it but it seems like it's a firmware issue that's causing the problem. Maybe they are having power issues that are causing their electronics to fail? Their cable went out almost a week ago and they've replaced two cable modems and two DVR boxes. So I'm wondering if they're not dealing with power issues.

I would do the test as in post #5 and post the results

ASUS B5402CEA – Laptop powers on for a few seconds then shuts down
                  by riki_22
                  Hi everyone,

I’m working on an ASUS B5402CEA notebook.

                  REV:1B

The board powers on, fan spins for a few seconds, then it shuts down by itself.
I suspect the BIOS might be corrupted.

Could someone please check and clean (repair) the attached BIOS dump?
I’ve also attached a few photos of the motherboard for reference.

Thanks in advance for your help!

VIZIO (V555-H1) Television with odd cascading display fault
                  by Garret Matt.
                  Hello,

I'm working on a Vizio Model V555-H1 that displays a cascading series of horizontal lines when first powering on. These lines appear to be in the shape of the Vizio Logo and descend until reaching the logo before resetting to the top and continuing their descent. I have reseated my TCON board and dusted connections but still have this fault displaying. I'm familiar with vertical lines but this one is a new one for me. My research into this problem hasn't yielded results as keyword searches point back to vertical line problems.

                  Anyone have any recommendations? I...

PlayStation 3 Super Slim (CECH-4004A) powers on for a brief moment and immediately shuts down. But works without cover..
                  by Tony182
Hello everyone, I received a PS3 console with the issue described in the title. I gradually measured the console (both the PSU and the motherboard) but couldn’t find anything—everything seems fine.
I planned to remove the casing and test whether the voltages appear on the coils, but after rewiring and turning the console on without the casing, the system actually booted, which blew my mind (it’s been seven days that I’ve been dealing with this). The processor started heating up, so I quickly turned the console off and tried reinstalling the heatsinks and turning it on again....

Help with Dell Latitude E5470 that shuts down when moved at all. Powers up, but no charge, power jack has brown burn marks
                  by lowpost99@gmail.com
I have a Dell E5470 that powers up and boots windows no problem. Using a non-standard universal type charger, it shuts down immediately if moved, (power short in that charger or AC power jack) because the battery has no charge and isn't charging orange/white lights blinking on the front. When first powered up, BIOS power alarm stated that it could not detect the voltage setting and I had to dis-able the message to get past this. It got into Windows fine, as long as not moved, so I dis-assembled it looking for a cold solder joint on the power jack that I thought might be lifting off the MB, but...

supply is 19 volts. Changed D9100 again, same, 12 volts measures 19. Am I looking at a power supply or mainboard
