Do you have the OM (owner's manual)?
Do you know that the OM is for nine tv sets?

I couldn't find a LT-42E488 SM (service manual), but I did find a SM that covers LT-32E478/s & LT-42E478/v that might be of use to you.

I tried to attached them but was unable to upload them.

the flash of the backlights indicate the inverter is at least trying.make sure the +24 stays in spec during the flash.

I have not followed this thread but....

Every time there is a flash from the backlights I suspect the panel in general rather than the power supply. On Sony and other brands there is a diagnostic code displayed by a blinking LED. On a Sony it almost always indicates the one of the tubes in the panel has failed. On a Sony the failure is sensed and shutdown ensues. I have changed many tubes inside the panels. The hardest part is to identify the tube. I recently purchased a CCFL tester. Merely holding the device near a tube will cause it to glow. The one that does not glow is the one to change.

It could also be the inverter. On Sony which is the brand that I am most familiar, that rarely turns out to be the case. The better brands, and JVC is one of them, seem to have bad ccfl tubes and the cheaper brands have bad inverter transformers although other components go bad too.

well i have an idea and mabye ill get lucky...

i have some ssfls from a smashed 42" vizio... they are different so im not really inclined to hack them in if i dont have to...

but heres my idea. On this jvc, theres a 2 wire connector per pair of bulbs. One wire to one lamp one wore to the other lamp then the other end of the lamps is are electrically tied togther and wired to ground.

so im thinking im going to make a "test pair" of ccfls with some gator clips and hook it up one connector at a time and mabye i will get lucky and find the oddball out.

have pretty much given up on this. Not sure but i think bieng the software is boobytrapped it wont run the inverter properly. I never did find an issue with the ccfls. i found a fellow who accidentally smashed his set, so mabye he will buy my panel, or mabye i will buy his known working boards(hell mabye the whole set)

the +24 dropping is your clue.bad psu or overload.try powering the inverter from a bench supply and pulling up the control pin.if it stays on its the psu.
word has it that the hdmi stops working if you spring the trap.

Ok.. used my head a little bit here... pulled the power board, followed the leads off of the 4 filter caps near the inverter connector.. founds pins 1-5 are +, pins 6-10 are - so with the connector unplugged, power on, i have 24.4 vdc...

power down.. hook up inverter.. power back on, 24v, UNTILL the backlights try to fire then it goes down to like 5vdc, then after failing to light the backlights i hear the relays clock off tv goes into protection and voltage drops from there..


I suppose the next thing to do is pull one fuse at as time fill i find the issue mabye..

edit: aha if i pull f100 on the inverter board the set powers on stays on and 24v stays at 24v...

time to dig further
