    Sony KDL-52W5150 Bravia

My unit has started this problem since a power surge (lightning). Here is the problem when I first turn on the unit I get Horzi. lines of different sizes and color all the way across with the picture in the background faintly, also seems to have some retention in pic. Now the odd thing you can turn the unit off and on a few times in say 5 mins. and it works just fine from then on no matter how long you let it stay on. Has a great pix. Sites I have searched seem to say this is a bad panel this is so hard to believe because it doesn't stay this way all the time. I am on Direct TV with HDMI inputs. Does anyone think a power supply might cause this problem? Maybe a bad cap and when it warms up it will work.
Thanks for ur input to my problem.

Usually this points to a power supply problem, as long at the tv was pluged in the power supply works, but when power is removed for a while and restored thats when the problem can show up.
usually weak capactors, and when the power is restored and the caps heat up a bit they start to work, the longer the tv is on the better they get so the fault seems to go away. post some pictures of the boards and of the screen when its acting up and maybe someone can help

We need good clear pictures of the whole backside of the TV so we can see how all the boards are connected together, then good clear pictures of the power supply board.
What you can also do is to unplug the TV from the outlet then use hair dryer to heat the power supply board for 2~3 minutes then plug the TV in and turn it on to see if the TV will startup properly, you should also make sure all the circuit board mountings screws are on tight.

I am having a similar problem, the picture below is a good representation of the issue, then after a few power cycles, I am back to perfect picture.

Is this a T Con issue?

Panel Issue? - seems odd since it does show fine after some power recycles

        Power Issue?
