    Samsung HPS5053 bad Y-main board

Acquired another monster plasma the other day, it was sitting on the side of the road getting nice and soaked in the rain, for a 100 lb. set this thing seemed to weigh double, must have been all the water weight!

Anyway, after tearing the whole thing apart and cleaning/drying every inch of it, I powered her up and everything seemed to work except for the video, so that got me thinking that the Y-main/buffers were a good place to start.

I checked the all too common FETS that usually blow but they're ok, in fact the only components on the board that are obviously bad are 4 zener diodes that I assume control the lower buffer board:

I can't find the specs of these diodes anywhere, but a youtube video where someone tests them leads me to believe that they're 36V: (the test occurs around 6:15)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5mYKAgMoB4

A post in another thread on here claims that they're 30V, if anyone has any insight on the specs of these things I'd love to hear it!

Hi mate, you can use 1N4753A diodes for that, they are 36v 1W. Please be sure that you replace all 8 at the same time if not the ones that you didnt replace will fail soon.

While we're on the subject of identifying components, do you have any idea what these are?

I believe they're inductor coils, they measure ~22 ohms, I just have no clue how to go about finding them online, are there any other measurements I can take that might help me figure it out?

I assume I need a meter that measures inductance?

haha I'm aware of that, however I have another board with those inductors missing and need to know their values so I can replace them, I'm guessing I need a LCR meter?

My apologies for never updating this thread, replacing those 4 bad diodes on the lower buffer brought the screen to life and I replaced the other 4 on the upper buffer as well for good measure!

Interestingly enough this is the set I lent to my father-in-law to use while I wait for the y buffer to arrive to hopefully fix his Samsung from my other thread.

He's been using it heavily for about 2 weeks now and he says that the set will randomly lose sound, as a shot in the dark I'd say maybe the main board is on it's way out but without actually having my hands on it I won't jump to any conclusions just yet.

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                        Assuming...

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

Upgrading a Samsung ue55nu7096u with logic board from an ue55ru7105k -- good idea?
                        by ohren
I hope this is the right forum to post in despite not technically being a repair, but still a question of swapping boards.

I thought I'd explore the possibility to upgrade an existing working Samsung ue55nu7096u with the logic board (and power board if needed) of a newer model (ue55ru7105k) of the same size and appearance (and resolution). The reason being I'd like the extra inputs of that board including component in, an extra HDMI port and bluetooth. Its panel is broken so I have no use for the board otherwise.

The models launched in 2018 and 2019 respectively....
