Samsung UN60F6300AFXZA interesting dark spot in picture

Customer gave me this tv to tear apart so I could figure out what is causing the spot in the picture. This is the third time I've seen this problem (other two were Sharp 70"). I thought it might be that the backlights were overheating damaging the plastic screens, but after tearing the tv apart I found the backlights are all functioning just fine and the plastic covers behind the screen are good as well. (ran tv without lcd panel on it)

I reinstalled the screen but left the ribbon cables disconnected. could not see the spot when using the backlights to see through the screen. When I reconnected the ribbon cables to the screen I get the spot. Was able to lift the lcd panel while it was connected to the tv and the spot is definitely on the lcd.

I can only assume the LCD panel has a bad section of liquid crystals. Cant imagine any way that the t-con or video circuits could cause such a spot on the screen.

Curious if anyone else has experienced the same symptom and your thoughts on the situation. Thanks

its easy to confirm this black spot, as its at the middle, by disconnect one by one the ribbon cable to see the white half screen. also by setting menu, service menu. if they show normal, at the end from your photos of the T-CON the left ribbon cable look had deep scratch. take look on it.

I disconnected the left half of the screen (looking from the front of the tv). Got a white picture. (Picture 1). When disconnecting just the right side, the whole picture goes black. After reconnecting the right side of the screen, the spot had grown and now reaches all the way to the left side of the picture. I kept messing with the ribbon cables on the right side and now I have a black screen with a white spot where the dark spot once was. There is video in the white spot, but it's very blurry and washed out. I either damaged the LCD screen further or damaged the tcon when connecting and disconnecting the ribbon cables. Probably should have turned tv off while messing with the cables.

Water intrusion? Was the TV use outside?

No water damage. Tv was clean. Looked at picture and saw what does look like a scratch. I will have to take a look at that ribbon cable.

                        Hi Jeffer ,

I got a philips lcd ( ambilight ) that does a similar thing. In my case its a bad panel ( tab bonding ). I get a black haze/spot on the screen...looks washed out. If i apply some pressure on the panel it will go away. ( too lazy to repair ).

On this tv it's either a bad panel or T-con. Im suspecting the panel. Did you check the tab bonding? Turn on the tv and apply pressure on the tabs and see if it goes away?

plug your tv out from wall socket, and take out both ribbon out, turn the tv on for 1 minute ( this reset T-CON parameter to default ).. then plug it out again from wall socket , then keep press power bottom on the set for 10 seconds, , then release it, wait other 1 minute then put back the ribbon ( here you can reverse them, left to right ) and plug in and tell how picture
