Customer gave me this tv to tear apart so I could figure out what is causing the spot in the picture. This is the third time I've seen this problem (other two were Sharp 70"). I thought it might be that the backlights were overheating damaging the plastic screens, but after tearing the tv apart I found the backlights are all functioning just fine and the plastic covers behind the screen are good as well. (ran tv without lcd panel on it)
I reinstalled the screen but left the ribbon cables disconnected. could not see the spot when using the backlights to see through the screen. When I reconnected the ribbon cables to the screen I get the spot. Was able to lift the lcd panel while it was connected to the tv and the spot is definitely on the lcd.
I can only assume the LCD panel has a bad section of liquid crystals. Cant imagine any way that the t-con or video circuits could cause such a spot on the screen.
Curious if anyone else has experienced the same symptom and your thoughts on the situation. Thanks
