The TV was brought to me several months ago with bad ghosting and imaging on the upper-right side.
Turned out to be a TAB-bonding issue. Found the exact bad-spot, and glued/taped it together as best I could (BTW, Check out budm's great thread on repairing tab-bonds!). It held together on the bench running continuously for almost 2 weeks, even with me poking at the repair-area. Finally had enough confidence in it that I re-gifted to my wife's boss, with the caveat that it's 'as-is'. Her kids are big video-game players, so it was a good match.
Got it back 2 days ago, and she said it was doing the same thing. I was reluctant to work on it as I wasn't sure what I could different do the second time around, but fired it up anyway.
Now for the Good News & Bad News:
- Good News is that there wasn't any ghosting.
- Bad News is the screen was cracked.
It's a heavy tv and I was surprised at how it had looked like it was just 'tossed' into her minivan when she brought it to me, and i'm guessing that's when/how it died.
So it's back in the dumpster as we speak.
