My friend is selling their TV for parts and I wanted to help fix it so they didn't have to scrap it. I've seen Tcon failures before but not in gray scale with that large of bands. Does this look like a panel failure? It is an LG 55" but I don't know the model. Just getting this thread started but I won't get a chance to go over to look at it until this weekend to pop it open and try to clean the connections and check to see if they are solid. Just wanted to get a head start if anyone has seen one like this before. Thanks
What type of "Failure" does this look like?

Looks like panel failure to me. Try disconnecting the ribbons to the panel from the Tcon, one at a time. -

Agreed on panel failure. Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Re: What type of "Failure" does this look like?
With the symptom going the whole way across the display, you may possibly have a T-con failure. It's 50/50, but would be worth it to substitute a T-con to check. Usually if you have that same symptom in only a portion of the display, then it is 98% a display failure.Comment

Well, Thanks for the replies. I'm gonna smack my buddy up side the head. Stopped by this weekend and he was actually wanting to buy this tv and just forwarded me the picture. How do you delete a post? Sorry for wasting time. I was actually looking forward to trying to fix it on the cheap.Comment

by npielawskiI will just preface all this by saying that I have a fairly technical background but have never attempted SMD electronics diagnostics and repair before, I really like the idea and want to learn.
I have a MacBook Pro late 2016 that died maybe four years ago. Over the course of 30 seconds, it got slower and stuttered, until it froze for a second and died. No click from the trackpad anymore, nothing. I started getting interested in electronics repair and decided to give it a shot, so I opened it, removed the battery (one cell was puffy), took out the motherboard and experimented with...10-15-2025, 01:53 AM -
by puccovelliHi all, I hope this is the right place to post.
I'm having a problem with a Dell 9310 which is posting 2 orange, 4 white lights on startup (hangs on Dell BIOS logo). The service manual says its a RAM failure.
I've taken the motherboard out and noticed that one of what looks like an SMA 0805 resistor has blown (see photo). The board is an LA-J144P Rev 2.0(A01).
1] Could someone confirm what the component that has blow actually is (and where I could get another from).
2] Whether this component is likely to cause the RAM failure issue, and if replacing... -

by howardc64All left and right refers to looking from rear of TV (or looking from front with TV upside down)
- TV came with vertical bars and no image. Found faulty TVS on left buffer board. Also replaced T-Con (may have damaged the original while hot air removing components, board has slight warp) and have full image but few horizontal lines on the screen. Some of the lines appears to be 2 pixel tall while others are 1 pixel tall.
- Disconnecting left and right buffer board potentially reveals problems on both sides with different signals (unless this T-Con require jumper like Samsung FB_TRDY1&3) Fault

by ctroxtellI've got a control display for a Carrier chiller that I'm trying to understand what the common failure with these boards are. This is the board in question https://www.supplyhouse.com/Carrier-...arquee-Display all of them seem to develop a failure with the up and down arrow buttons on the right side of the display, the esc and enter keys I've never seen fail. Once these boards are plugged in they run 24/7, you used to have to press extremely hard with the end of the blunt screwdriver and you could still get the arrows to work but now it has completely stopped working. The button...
