Re: e701i-a3 no picture but backlights
Hey Freakaftr8, I found another tv that this method will save. A friend bought a pallet of returns/demo/damaged box TVs. I was suprised as to how many just had bad boxes but good TVs lol!! Anyhow, I'm fixing the ones that were returns. There is an Element 4K E4SJ5516H. Someone worked on it before returning it and pinched one of the side ic drivers. It made lines about 3/4 of the way across. I noticed that they were not apparent on certain menus like it wasn't driving from that side. I took a chance and pulled it. Fat bar with lighter color...

Re: RCA 46LA45RQ bad inverter board
hiperco,
I haven't checked this thread out in awhile. I may have one in the drawer still. Let me know if you still need one. Thanks, John (teflonbandit)

Re: TAB Driver IC Repairs
Tibimakai
It all depends on panel and driver. Some failures look like rainbow stripes while others are dark and some can be blank. Depends on how the chip failed. Sometimes the get so hot they melt through the fpc.

I was thinking the same thing. I don't think you can bring one back from the dead. I was thinking along the lines that the bond was weak to the fpc. But it is a very curious video. I have never seen someone try this before.

TAB Driver IC Repairs
I am playing around with learning how to bond tabs back to the LCD panels but wanted to share something unique.
These Malaysian guys heated the driver IC chip on film. The FPC stays in place and they heat the chip to repair. Then slather it with heat dissipate paste. I am going to have to try this on a bad panel when I pick another one up.

Anyone have a bad panel they want to play with and see if this fixes it. The bad panels I have are stripped of parts for salvage so I won't be trying it soon.I am playing around with

Re: What type of "Failure" does this look like?
Well, Thanks for the replies. I'm gonna smack my buddy up side the head. Stopped by this weekend and he was actually wanting to buy this tv and just forwarded me the picture. How do you delete a post? Sorry for wasting time. I was actually looking forward to trying to fix it on the cheap.

What type of "Failure" does this look like?
My friend is selling their TV for parts and I wanted to help fix it so they didn't have to scrap it. I've seen Tcon failures before but not in gray scale with that large of bands. Does this look like a panel failure? It is an LG 55" but I don't know the model. Just getting this thread started but I won't get a chance to go over to look at it until this weekend to pop it open and try to clean the connections and check to see if they are solid. Just wanted to get a head start if anyone has seen one like this before. Thanks...Last edited by Teflonbandit; 06-16-2016, 08:44 AM.

Re: LED Strip repair for RCA 50B45RQ
I was able to track down the bad LED when I posted. The strip I had was an odd part number that wasn't easy to find but one of our fellow members hooked me up. Up and running. He also gave me a bad strip so I could practice SMD replacement....

LED Strip repair for RCA 50B45RQ
I have a RCA 50B45RQ with a bad LED on one of the strips kicking me out on over current protection. They used several different strips in this model depending on when it was built. Mine uses ic-a-kjab50d354 which at this time not easy to find from a harvester. I was wanting to know if anyone has successfully changed the SMD on one of these strips?

Re: e701i-a3 no picture but backlights
Freakaftr8, good pics on the burnt IC driver. Helped speed up troubleshooting greatly. I picked this tv up for $100 last week and will have $101 in it when done. Thanks for the great work and pointers! Thanks again everyone!!

Re: e701i-a3 no picture but backlights
I thought I may need bifocals soon. Now I know I do!!! I got the new mosfet for the T-con and was working on it tonight. Now that I'm cross eyed I will take it to the shop at work tomorrow and use the big magnifiers to finish loading lol!!

Re: RCA 46LA45RQ bad inverter board
Funny the way it showed up at the house. DHL dropped it off and my wife was home from work to sign for it. I got home and she says "Hey, your parts came in!". She picks up the package to give it to me and the end was flopping around. I knew right away it was dead lol!!

Re: RCA 46LA45RQ bad inverter board
Sorry ryan74, I could have hooked you up with a transformer before you ordered your board. I haven't been on the forum for a week or so.

Re: RCA 46LA45RQ bad inverter board
So for $30 and a couple of weeks time it wasn't too bad but I'm not likely to buy from TaoBao again.

Re: RCA 46LA45RQ bad inverter board
Sorry for the delay on updates. My board came in but was broken............. snapped off on one end. So I just took the transformer off and put it on my old board. TV is up and running great.

Re: RCA 46LA45RQ bad inverter board
Finally got a tracking number from DHL. It is being processed and should ship out of Hong Kong shortly. I found that I had to pay an additional $15 for international shipping. That is the price for up to 1 KG. I found that TaoBao offers putting your parts in a warehouse location if you are buying from several different vendors. Then you can combine all of them and if they weigh under 1 KG it is $15 shipping for all of it. I only needed the one board so I'll know next time. I might order some Gundam toys for the boy just to make the shipping price...
