    Vizio E601i-A3E TCON Board Question...

Hello guys, I'm new to the forum and found this place by searching google for some troubleshooting on this Vizio i picked up last week.. A common problem, no picture, but there is sound & backlights. I ordered a new TCON board but it hasnt arrived yet... Also, i ordered some replacement transistors to attempt repairing the current TCON just in case something doesnt go right.

I was lead to believe the COXA (or on my ZG stamped board COTA 18) transistor is one of the main, if sometimes the only component to go out on these things. Further investigating it looks like this SMD labeled 4R7 is burnt?

Without getting the new board in i cant compare, but does this look normal to anyone?

That's a 4.7uH inductor, probably for a voltage converter circuit. Where are you seeing burning? The windings are secured with a varnish. It would take a lot of current, probably more than can be supplied, to burn this device.

That was my other guess, that it was some kind of varnish or glue. It just looked burnt to me.

I was hoping to repair the board by just replacing that COTA transistor but if this chip were burnt then I didn't order everything I need. Thank you for your help!

Where did you find a repair kit for the Tcon board?

Look on eBay or you can just buy the transistors separately from a couple of different companies, Mouser being one of them (they're in TX).

I changed the COXA transistor and TV worked fine but one side was darker than the other, so bad panel...

The new t-con won't last if you don't remove the driver tabs....

You can't remove the side driver tabs on this model only the 70"... That's what I've gathered

Are you sure? There's a thread on the 70" repair that's rather extensive and a few people mentioned that the 60" doesn't have side driver tabs and therefore that method of repair wouldn't be possible..

I sold this TV so its out of my hands now, but I love to hear everyone's .02 cents and learn something new.

Thanks for everyone's input so far

Here an example of 2 diferent types of ic drivers...one with strap board with tabs and the other are single ic drivers....this single ic driver some lcd or led tvs from 32 to 42 some am not saying all they just have 3 side drivers ic... some 42 to 60 have 6 side drivers and sharp is one if them, that it has 6ic tabs on 60inch tvs...the 70inch vizio and sharp have the strap board with the tabs as shown in the pic......in this case post pictures of your work. So it can be more understandable...thank hope u get it fixed

that explains where the "other end" of the tabs are.... there isn't one. :-)
It looks like they are just "daisy chained" without boards.

Had I known about the driver tabs I would've tried to go this route but I sold the TV for parts because I was lead to believe it was in repairable... Bummer
