    Testing for a Broken Screen?

Does anyone have a way to test for a broken LCD screen prior to purchase? I'm talking about TVs that have died on the previous owner and they are selling it for a song. Of course, the TV doesn't power-on, so that way is out.

I purchased a Samsung 40" that was supposed to be okay (except it didn't power on). After fixing the power supply (capacitors) and firing the thing up, there was a crack across the screen. I've tried various ways of looking for a cracked screen, but I have succeeded with none of them.

I've just been chalking the bad ones up as "you win some, you lose some". I like to sell whole TVs locally, as I don't want to deal with the people who claim that I sold them a board that doesn't work (the "skeet" shooters).

I find using a bright torch can often reveal breaks in the panel - unfortunately, this technique not work on true LED panels (aka AMOLED/Retina).
But detecting LC material loss is a bit difficult (before the LCD displays anything) in my experience.
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

I have not found a way yet. I usually buy them for less then the interior boards are worth. If I can fix it great if it is a bust then I can break even with parts sales.

Macbook 2017 with touchbar (A1706) won't turn on after removing the screen
            by Ryan.man
Hello everybody! Posting this in hopes somebody has some expertise that leads to a clear path of troubleshooting that saves me a lot of time!

My macbook has the flex cable problem, the one that prevents the screen turning on. Ive been dealing with this for the last 3 years. Last year it went dead and I managed to fix it following youtube tutorials. But my fix wasnt the best, the problem returned a month later. This week, it went dead again. I again tried to fix it.

This time the original cable broke too close to the screen, it can't be fixed without tearing the screen...

Macbook Air M2 A2681 Kernel panics after screen replacement
            by reformatt
Just had a customer bring in a M2 MBA A2681 that had had a screen replacement in April at another repairer. Since then, she has been getting intermittent kernel panics. It's an aftermarket screen, and of course it fails in diagnostics as the calibration hasn't been done. The error in the panic log is "No device added after powering on the rails".

It seems the original repairer has swapped the board and the screen to other MAC's, and said that it isn't a screen issue. From what I understand, by doing a quick search on Google, this is in fact a screen issue. The panic relates...

iphone XS turns off when press on screen.
            by smic717394
            Hi,

I have a iphone XS that came in for a screen replacement, the screen was badly cracked, and inside missing scues, on the back of the screen still the blue protector, the screen was a LCD. So we replaced the screen and all good, installed the screen and we noticed that pressing the screen with a bit of force but not excessive, the phone dies. After plugging the charger it turns back on, but again if you press it it dies. I open the phone again, and I can't see anything major, with the phone open, if I press on the logic board, battery, charging board, or even putting pressure on...

I bought a new blank Bios chip so I can programmed by flashing on the bios.
