Re: Vizio D65U-D2 Intermittant Back lights
Took it apart and found 1 led that was bad. Repaired the strip and it is working fine now.

Re: Vizio D65U-D2 Intermittant Back lights
I unplugged half the led driver board, the white and black side stays on and the red and black side turns off. I turned down the back lights and it has been on for a couple hours now with both plugged in.

Vizio D65U-D2 Intermittant Back lights
Started inspecting a d65u-d2 for losing picture while watching. Using a flash light I was able to determine a backlight issue. It could take 5 minutes or all day. Once it does it you can get it to repeat fairly quickly. Every time you shut off the tv and turn it back on the lights come back on atleast for a minute. Since I knew it was a lighting issue I started testing at the inverter board. All voltages into the inverter board tested the same when the backlight were on or off. Voltages out did vary. With or with out the back lights on the White and Red pairs of wires all tested around 24 volts....

Re: e550vl no picture or backlights
T-con is part of the main/input board

it took out the tc2 resister next to the f1 fuse.

Re: e550vl no picture or backlights
It is the same board. I don't know if I blew the tf1 fuse while testing or if I missed it originaly. I replaced it and there were lines on screen for about 1 second and then the fuse blew again.

Re: Test LG backlight LED strips with external bench PS
I use a model train transfomer that only goes to 18 volts. I figure 3 volts per led and use a multimeter to dial in the voltage. Depending on how the led lights connect you can use a jumper on the first strip to close the loop and straight to the second strip. Start low on voltage and you can move up to make it easier to see the lights. You will need to scratch the surface of the strip before and after the led to test individual leds. You can remove individual leds and solder in a replacement. I keep strips around just for...

e550vl no picture or backlights
Read through the other posts and have concluded I have a bad main board. I wanted someone to double check my information to make sure I didn't miss anything.
Symptoms- 1)No backlights 2) No picture even with flashlight.
When powered on-
Power supply
CN201 connector on the main board has all correct voltages except the C labled pin which only has .763 volts when on. I assume this is supposed to be between 1.5 and 3 volts for normal backlight on operation. Pin A has 2.814 volts.
CN202 has .763 volts on pin C and 3.209 volts on pin A. The...

Re: General question about duplicating voltage for test
I am using a small dc controller lionel model 4660. It only goes up to 18 volts dc. I can control the output with its dial indicator.
So if say I wanted to test a TV that was not getting the backlight signal on, assuming its a 5 volt signal, could I fake the signal with the controler and turn the back lights on? Would I risk shorting out other components introducing additional voltage into the circuits?

General question about duplicating voltage for test
For the last little while I have been using a model train transformer to test led lights. I can control the voltage with the dial indicator on the transformer itself.
The questions I pose are:
Can I use the transformer to duplicate signal voltage?
For instance back light on voltage?
What are the forseen problems with this?

Re: NS-46E560A11 Will not turn on.
First test was connected which gave the same voltages listed above. The second test with the main board disconnected that turned on the back lights was a similar method used on Samsung TV's for testing the power supply.

unplugged 0V
plug in 1.275V
"click noise" 50.8mV.
Does not change after this.

1 +12V = 11.92 2 +12V = 11.92
3 GND = 0 4 +12V = 11.92
5 GND = 0 6 GND = 0
7 +5VSTB = 5.176 8 EXT_DIM =4.088

NS-46E560A11 Will not turn on.
I received it this way. Plug the tv in the red lights along the buttons light up (all of them) and the power display in center, all in red. The button lights will shut off after a couple seconds. If I press the power button the red buttons will light up again and shut off. The power indicator at center stays red. If I unhook the back lights or t-con nothing changes. If I disconnect the power supply form the input board it puts it into a back light test mode? (similar to Samsung). I have zero or almost zero voltage at all points except BL which is 4.108V off and 4.103V on, 5V 5.169V off and 5.162V...

Re: Vizio e550i-b2 distorted picture
I got it this way.
I don't understand why the Logo would be perfect every time. It goes stupid after the logo. I thought corrupted main board but 3 corrupted mains?

Make sure I understand. The boards along the bottom of the screen? t-con is behind the steel panel by the stand.

Vizio e550i-b2 distorted picture
I have a vizio e550i-b2 that randomly distorts the picture. It had the classic broke solder joints that have been repaired. This did not change the distortion. The Vizio logo always comes on fine. Then it changes to lines across the screen. I have tried 2 power supplies, 2 inverter boards, 3 inputs and two t-cons. The only thing left is the screen. I have tried to move every cable but nothing consistently changes the screen. if i have a bad screen why does the logo work every time? I have not read about bad screens on this model and was wondering if someone else could confirm....

Re: Samsung PN50B550
There is 3 of them. I did replace the one next to the transformer. No change. I bought another power supply and plugged it in.
There was a flash of light and the magic smoke left my y-sus board.
I think there was more wrong with the tv then just the power supply.
