Hey y'all. This Vizio was working fine, then each hdmi port stopped getting signals. Otherwise, everything works great. I've searched for general hdmi port troubleshooting, and only find things related to power-cycling, resetting to factory, etc, but this isn't fixing it. I've tested 3 different hdmi cables and 3 different devices....all of which do work fine on another tv of mine. I came to info that calls for me to understand/know how to trace to components for testing them, but I don't have enough details for my skill level, and thought I'd ask you guys for help. I see no physical damage to chips surrounding the ports. I don't know how to test for voltage going to the ports, and assume this may be a start?

Re: Vizio E37OVA hdmi ports no signals
From what i see in the photo they using one HDMI chip. All the big brands like lg or samsung have separate hdmi ic for each port. When the 5v due to short in cable or to input device blow an hdmi the others keep work.
In your set this dont happen.
Check FB 503-504-502-506 and the 2 resistors near. Also near CN506 you have a resistor with a zero on it.
On pin 18 in HDMI port(first down left as we look from the front) you must have 5v all times.

Re: Vizio E37OVA hdmi ports no signals
Thanks, guys!
I know what the resistors are/how to test them, but don't know what "FB"s are...not that I didn't find them, but just don't know what the acronym stands for, and so I can't research how to test them(or, did you mention them only to indicate which resistors to test, nearby each?).

Re: Vizio E37OVA hdmi ports no signals
FB = Ferrite bead which is basically a very small inductor, it should show as very LOW OHM (<1 Ohm).

Re: Vizio E37OVA hdmi ports no signals
Pin # 18 on the 1st hdmi port(far left) had no voltage, both in standby and powered on.
The FB's:
504 .4
501 .4
502 .7
503 .3
The Resistors:
at FB504 30.8 & 31.6
at FB501 47 & 47.6
at FB502 46.6 & 47.7
at FB503 47.1 & 47.8Last edited by AcGeorgiegirl; 04-30-2016, 12:42 PM.

Re: Vizio E37OVA hdmi ports no signals
Trace pin 18 to see if it goes back to the ic. If it does then check the datasheet for the ic to see what voltages it should have and measure to see if they are present.
If the ic is responsible for powering the ports and it is receiving voltage then it has likely failed.
