Hi everyone in the know! :-)
I've been having an issue with my 'once trusty' 32" TV/PC it's a bit of a unique take on a TV this one and I doubt they sold many of them back in the day but basically it's a 32" TV with a (poor by todays standards) 720p panel and room in the back for a MicroATX motherboard of sorts, a 3.5" hard drive and comes with 2 Asus TV cards...
I originally purchased it about 6 years ago brand new as a barebones unit for around £200 at the time which was mega cheap for a 32" tv, the catch back then was that you needed to build a PC into it to make it work... As I was an IT tech back then I had plenty of knowledge so wasn't bothered, I chucked a 3GHz Core2Duo in it, 4gb DDR3 ram, a 1tb 3.5" Samsung spinner and a 128gb OCZ Agility 3 SSD soon after for Windows to boot as fast as possible from.
Right, that's the introduction done, I do still use this TV and it's since been upgraded to Windows 10 and it still flies to the desktop with the above spec and mainly use it with Plex and Kodi etc... (So I would like it still working ideally and I'm not quite ready to bin it...)
The problem.
It started happening around 6 months ago, when I first turn it on, I hear the CPU fan spin up, the PSU, the hard drive it's all go, the screen back light shows up but nothing on the screen at all, I hear the Windows start up sound through the speakers so I know it's booted up fine.
6 months ago, I would then press the power button a single time which would then make Windows do the proper shut down procedure, once it was powered off, I'd then press the power button once more and it would all be working again...
6 months on to today, it's basically doing the same thing except it takes 3 power cycles to get the screen to actually display anything...
Things I've tried so far, I initially thought it might be something to do with the PC hardware side of it, so I've tried a brand new PSU (even though my tester said the original is fine, I had one available...) I've also tried a completely different Motherboard, Ram and CPU setup still nothing. So now I'm thinking it's obviously something to do with the TV side of things, which I have no clue about...
Also, I get no source selection until the 3rd power cycle, so that also re-enforces that it's not the PC side of things as I can't even select HDMI, SCART etc until it's happy...
I've looked all over the 2 circuit boards for anything obvious and I can't see any inflated CAPS so I've taken a few pics if anyone could have a look and tell me where to start maybe or if anybody has any experience with the above symptoms maybe (switches on, back light is on, no picture until 3rd power cycle...)?
Thanks in advance guys!!!
Adam.
