Vizio GV42L relay clicks tv dead.

Hi guys; after my big disappointing with My Sony KDl46S410, bad panel, one of my friends knocked at my door with a Vizio GV42L i would normal say no but he's been threw a rough time fighting his cancel and he' still an Yong man, i couldn't say no, this Vizio came in with power clicking relay with white logo led on,
I have all the voltages right per manual, except U5 that i suspect, i went through the outstanding Bad-caps thread files help on this model#.

    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...ht=vizio+gv42l

    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...ht=vizio+gv42l

    U5

    pin 1=0.323v

    pin 2=0.900 output pin=0.900

    pin 2=3.30

there are 2 other regulators next to U5

    U-10

    pin 1=0.00v

    pin 2=1.8v output 3.30v

    pin 3=3.29

    U9

    pin 1=0.00v

    pin 2=1.80v output=3.29v

    pin 3=3.29v

so i think U5 is bad, can it cause the tv not to work? before i have my friend to send for a Main board i'd like you help and expertise, thanks in advance.

U5 is bad and it appears to be an adjustable regulator. The AMS version appears to be compatible. It's just made by a different company- AMS versus AMC. The 1117 adjustable regulator is made by several companies and can be easily found on a site like digikey.com.

Re: Vizio GV42L relay clicks tv dead.

Hi guys; update on Vizio 42GVL,as i said this guy brought me this LCD tv to repair, story short i troubleshooted it and found out U5 on Main Board bad so i called the guy and told him to order Regulator U5 - AMC 1117 -F0631j, but it would not be a sure thing and after installing it if it would not work he could try and order the main board, well it's been more than 2 weeks and no regulator, a part that costs 1 buck or so and no response not even an email.well since i have a Main board from a Vizio 32 VW32L on my scrap and checked for a Adjust regulator 1117 that would not be faulty and found U4 LO23-G1117
i took it out and soldered it on Vizio GV42L main Board on U5,and power TV up and voila it's working again, but i'll be darned if i tell him that tv is fixed, before he comes up with the part i asked for, if he never brings the Part i will keep TV.

And for future reference here voltages on the regulator before repair and after repair.

            U5 =Bad AMC 1117 -F0631j

            pin 2=0.900 output pin=0.900

            pin 3=3.30

            U5-Good LO23 -G1117

            Pin 1 adjust=0.701

            Pin 2 out =1.9v

            Pin 3 In =3.2v

Do you tell all your customers to buy your parts for you? The guy probably has no idea what to look for or where to get it!

For next time I'd say stock up on a bunch of these adjustable ones: http://www.digikey.com/product-detai...98-1-ND/705738 and forget the cheap Chinese knockoffs. If they'd used a genuine TI one to begin with you probably wouldn't have had to fix it.

Thanks for the update! Yes, do not let customers purchase parts, as 9 times out of 10 they will purchase the wrong thing. It's best you supply the parts because next to charging for labor, most businesses will charge a huge markup for parts. You could charge $5.00 (or more) for that 50 cent regulator.

Sorry to disappoint you but i do not do this for business, i only repair my own electronics stuff,i'm doing a favour to a friend ,normally i do not do it for anybody,so in this case if he doesn't want to order the part that i requested to bad,and i will not give him or charge any money for my own my parts, he has to order it, i gave him part # so he should have no mistake.

Hi guys; new update on VizioGV42L repair,as i stated i fixed tv but still have an issue that i did not notice right away cause i did not connect it to my outdoor antenna for local channels, the Digital Tuner is not loading channels, but the Analog tuner is, i did check DU4 tuner regulator and input 3.3v, output 1.2v so it's good , any other place i have to check? thanks in advance, and happy Easter to everybody here.

According to the manual I downloaded, DU4 is another 1117-ADJ regulator. 1.2v seems odd, it may be too low. 1.8v is a more common voltage used.

Can you verify with the configuration resistors on DU4 if it is set for 1.2v or 1.8v output?

Photos of DU4, the tuner, and the general area would be nice too.

Thanks Agent; everything is ok now, when i started to scan channels i had to change from cable to Off the air antenna,it's kinda odd cause normally it does it automatically on my Vizio VW42L.
About the DU4 it's 1.2v,i took instructions from this Utube video.

Good to hear it works now. I'm surprised they use 1.2v, good to know. Maybe it's more common than I thought!

Hi Agent24 ; this may seem a damn question but this TV has Power supply and A board Metal covers, i took them out and did not put back, does it has any influence on the circuit? thanks.

Forgot the Guy that asked me to repair this tv finely brought the part that i asked ,he brought a few regulators

The covers are there to stop EMI (electromagnetic interference) getting in - or coming out. You should put them back in, yes. Not having them in may cause unreliable operation, or some issue with other equipment nearby.
