PANASONIC SC and SN boards A Failure Theory.

Having rebuilt a few and blown up a few, Ive come up with a possible cause.

Many ideas have been suggested over the last couple of years, usually relating to heatsinks and parts ratings etc...

It is known that some types made post 2010 the board mounting-screws cause the problem, working loose and allowing the earth/groundplanes to arc to chassis.

    Here's my theory on 'em.

All Pan plasma sets that Ive seen have a Two Pin VSUS connection-leads set up from P (PSU) board to the SC/SN and to the SS boards.
This two pin comprises the VSUS Supply and a Ground return to PSU.

It therefore stands to reason the entire VSUS current passes through just the One 1 sq mm Pin of this connector. While (to my knowledge) there havent been any obvious burn-ups of these plugs/sockets--Why Not...?
--Because when they DO give issues--The SC Blows up instantly--and kills the set stone dead anyway, so there's no burn-up!

Ah--then Why doesn't it happen to earlier Panasonics then...?

There's one feature the later sets Don't have the earlier sets did.
--Lots of VSUS Decoupling-Caps on the SC or SS boards.--Sometimes as much as 1500uF worth of caps on each board....

These later sets have only a couple--Maybe 500uF of capacitance,--Not enough to prevent spiking issues in the case of a slight weakness of the connection on any of the four points the VSUS passes via these plugs....

So--The known issue of Ground Arcing--Admitted by Panasonic in the issuing of screw kits is one way these SC/SN die.

A single pin supplying the full VSUS supply arc could well do the same IMHO.

This is Exactly what happened to me this morning. The set, a 42C2B with rebuilt SN board running fine. While doing something unrelated to this set, I just brushed against the Cable Only leading from the SN to the P board, with my elbow.....

    That was enough--2 blink, Q661, IC773, Q818 Q401, Q421 etc short--A typical SC/SN blow-up.....

The cable was the Original and had been refitted After all was well and I had removed my test-cable containing The Bulb.

This original lead had been unplugged when the set first came to me and then after all repairs etc done, had been refitted to the set.

My Test Cable--with The Bulb was made from an SC/P board cable from an older PZ70 set, and was quite firm on the plug pins.

The original to the repaired set was much looser in its fit to the pins of the board. Very careful examination of the board pins showed a VERY SLIGHT pitting in the form of a line across the supply pin--but no discolouration/black/burns. Fitting and removing the plug on the pins a few times, removed most of this...

So--Once its repaired (Again!) I'm gonna cut the bloody plugs off and solder the damned cables solid!

TCL 55S425 few horizontal lines, potential failure on both side of panel/buffer board
      by howardc64
All left and right refers to looking from rear of TV (or looking from front with TV upside down)
      • TV came with vertical bars and no image. Found faulty TVS on left buffer board. Also replaced T-Con (may have damaged the original while hot air removing components, board has slight warp) and have full image but few horizontal lines on the screen. Some of the lines appears to be 2 pixel tall while others are 1 pixel tall.
      • Disconnecting left and right buffer board potentially reveals problems on both sides with different signals (unless this T-Con require jumper like Samsung FB_TRDY1&3) Fault

Panasonic switching power supply daughter board has two 27uf @ 50 volt capacitors which I do not keep in stock
      by sam_sam_sam
I did not have any 27uf @ 50 volt capacitors but one nice thing is that it has enough room for two capacitors in parallel a 22uf and a 4.7uf @ 50 volts 22 plus 4.7 equals 26.7uf which so very close to 27uf I will show some pictures of it sometime tomorrow

This is one of the shit est boards I seen in a very long time and it was the daughter board the traces just lifting off the board I had to use the capacitor leads to repair the the traces and the main board is not any better because I had to repair several traces for the daughter board to the main board

      After all of...

Panasonic TC-P54VT25 No image. A or D board?
      by canadaboy25
I have a Panasonic TC-P54VT25 that will power on and prime the display but there is no image at all.

The panel is primed as there is a slight glow from the entire panel. This means the problem should be logic related. The service manual also confirms this and recommends replacing the A or the D board.

I have tried to get the TV to display the test sequence but I have been unable to and I don't even know if this TV has a test sequence or not. I tried following tom66's instructions in post #3 on this thread https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=26790. There was...

Sony Vaio SVS MBX-261 board failure
      by delpiero3
Hi everyone, newcomer in this forum, i watched tons of video from Sorin, i like the way i calmly explain things, i did quite some console repair, i am not that bad at micro-soldering, but troubleshooting where the issue is, is definitely where i still have progress to make. Usually i was able to fix the console because the failure was obvious, or because i was able to find someone with similar measures on the board and was pinpointing what to replace that way.
Nevertheless, let's say, i don't come as a total beginner.
I have this old laptop, which suit perfectly my needs, with the...

Panasonic th-p50s10d - blinky red, SC board go boom
      by dajoker
My old plasma died when one night recently. When I got to it it was giving a 3.3v sos (3 blinks).
I chased my way through the PSU, and a board, with no results.
Replacing a few bulged caps in the PSU, I eventually got to the SC board that had piles of shorts, a quick cheap replacement from china and the tv powers up again, except
I only have the right half of the picture.
      Left half is completely blank.
now the c3 board running this side of the screen has its 3.3 and 5v onto the buffer ic and its got the 60v, so that all seems good.
      all the other voltage rails...
