2012 50 inch 720p 3D Smart tv had standby but would not power up. Before I could get my hands dirty I looked up the model number on Shopjimmy and found a repair kit for the power supply consisting of several ic's, several transistors and diodes, a cap and a couple of fuses.
When I ran over the board with my meter I didn't find anything amiss and no blown fuses. The cap however, a 22nf 1.25kv film cap (C802) was reading way too low. Replaced that temporarily with an 18nf 630v cap for testing purposes and the tv came to life. A replacement cap of 1.6kv is on its way.
Now being the curious type I wanted to see what the pic was like so I went to plug a coax into the antenna port but couldn't find it. Seems the PO/joker/bozo managed to shear the connector right off the tuner module! I could replace the entire board (not!) or even the module but I think this one cries out for a "workaround". Will post pics when I get to it.
Btw I just repaired a Samsung lcd last week with failed film cap at CI802 and the location on the LG was C802.Spooky, lol.
