hi

i bought 3 non working lcd tvs .... i will give the model # and brief description of what tv is doing ....any input would be appreciated...would like to repair all of them if makes economical sense


sony KDL-46EX645, ...standby light is on....will not power on..no clicks..nothing when power button is hit.....caps on ps look ok...




oCosmo Model CE4001-HM06P7A,....completely dead..no standby light....originally the hdmi port fried..u can see burn marks on frame of tv and old main board is fried in that area...seller replaced with another main board and now tv is 100% dead.....





jvc LT-50A330 ....tv powers on with green light and has sound..there is a picture but no backlight....i tested and got 24v from ps to led driver board.....im thinking its a bad driver board but could be bad led lamps?



anyone want to give me their input on any or all issues to direct me that would be great....i have the oCosmo Model CE4001-HM06P7A main board and jvc LT-50A330 driver board with me at work out of tv ....

Sony probably failed Psu, start separate thread will bring more attention and easier to help you.

Cosoms probably blown fuse on Psu, start separate thread will bring more attention and easier to help you.

Jvc probably failed Led inside panel however start a new thread will bring more luck.

Also upload pictures of the boards inside the tv will help us help you. Will look out for your threads

ok ill do a thread for each

the driver board for the jvc has all good fuses...when i get home i will test for 24v coming out of board to led lamps....i didnt do that i assumed the board was bad but u are saying leds could be bad....?



i wasnt able to take back off of sony once of the screws head was stripped will deal with it later....it sounds like a ps issue but there is a standby light so it could be main board also?

once i get back off i can do further

the ocosmo main fuse is ok

On the oCosmo are you receiving 5v standby?

On the sony have you tried holding power while plugging it in to do a reset?

Jvc no idea, I've seen my fair share of failed led strips already.

i have the ps board at work for ocosmo i will try to plug it in an test out of tv

the sony i have not done any testing....

jvc has to be either led strip or bad driver board....100%

i had a led lcd tv that had one bad led that prevented all leds to light up....i thought it was bad ps or drive board but it wasnt

not sure if same here but i will know once i test the output side of driver board for voltages

fyi the cosmo tv only has one board for entire tv..........the main...input and ps and led driver all on one board

when i test for 5v on the main board with fried hdmi i get 5v

when i test for 5v on the replacmenet board i get 0v on the 5v pin

Thats probably because its in standby and isnt running, do you get standby led or anything ?

with the replacement main board i get nothing 100% dead

no lights at all....nothing....

hence no standby voltage either

where does the standby voltage come from?....which component can i check for....since i have a defective board that i get a 5v standby and one that gets 0v standby i was thinking i could swap defective component..instead of spending 75.00 for aother board

tv isnt worth much fixed....its a ultra low end..cheap ass made tv...with little value

There's your problem with the replacement board. Check those big caps on the primary side for dc voltage. Should have about 170vdc

He didn't mean if they were failed. He meant for you to check if they have a voltage across them in stby which would indicate if the primary side is working.

also im novice...how would i safely check the caps for voltage...red to what and black to what on multimeter

i would imagine you would just read voltage across - and + legs on capacitor?

on the 4 caps in the center of the board on the ocosmo

on the fried hdmi board i get 36v on two and 12v on two
on the replacement board that seems dead i get 8v on two and 2v on two
