VIZIO M551d-A2R shutting down after a minute

Hello everyone! I bought a VIZIO M551d-A2R 55-Inch 1080p 3D Smart LED HDTV early last year. I like its 3D feautre but the picture quality is just okay. Tonight, it started to turn off after a minute of use. I called Vizio customer support and tried to do all the troubleshooting with no good outcome. Since it has been past a year and out of the warranty, they gave us a number of their service center which means we have to pay for the repairs out of our pocket. I am very disappointed since this is barely 2 years old.

When it was working, we loved the 3D feature. However, I noticed a blurrish aura around moving subjects in the picture. Like the others said here, the remote that came it did not work well but Vizio sent a replacement.

I bought a Vizio because it is supposedly a US brand. We were impressed with a smaller TV we bought for our son, but this big screen one broke out hearts... and probably our pockets. I'm probably not buying one again.

What do you masters think is wrong with it? Vizio customer rep said I might be able to do a self-repair by calling their repair center and have them send a part.

    Thank you!

Re: VIZIO M551d-A2R shutting down after a minute

I called the repair center and they said they will be sending a technician with the parts needed for $334.50. That's like 1/3 of the price we bought the TV. I asked if they could just send me the part and I could install it and they said NO.

I gathered that all the parts of TVs nowadays comes in board modules. Would you guys know which module would be damaged so I can order it from ebay and install it myself? I am comfortable in opening and assembling electronic parts as long as I don't solder/desolder parts. I used to build computers.

    Help please!

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
      by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

      Assuming...

      Vizio M65-C1
      by mrtek
      Hi.

picked up another TV. This time is a Vizio M65-C1. TV does not turn on. I had repaired another 60 inch vizio , Bad main board.
When power button is pressed, the Power led indicator on the bottom right, turns for a few seconds and then it fades away. No backlight or Vizio logo on screen. Removed back cover and repeated test.
This is the TV This TV is a little different from the Samsung I have worked on. Power supply is on the Left side, Main Bd is on the right side, T-CON , not in the picture is on the bottom. I am assuming that the boards in the middle are the LED...

Yoga 530-14ARR NM-B781 Ryzen 3 2200 – overheating and shutting down under load
      by Maniackk
      Hi,

I’ve got a stubborn patient here. The laptop powers on and works, all components like the screen, keyboard, touchpad, etc. are functional. The issue is that it heats up very quickly under load (within a few minutes up to 95°C) and then shuts down shortly after. Subsequent attempts to turn it back on right after a “hot shutdown” result in it shutting off within a few seconds. Interestingly, if I enter the BIOS, it can stay there for 2 days without shutting down (most likely due to low CPU load and low temperatures).

The cooling system has been cleaned, thermal...

Vizio M65Q7-H1 Red Vertical Strips fixed by tape blocking LC1 signal to half of the panel
      by howardc64
      Failure Symptom

No picture, just red vertical stripes. Google search shows quite common problem for these recent Vizio M series although red vertical stripe pattern may differ. Some call it "Netflix" boot screen haha.

      Where is the short?

Panel has 4x buffer boards. Quickly found the 1/4 panel buffer board with the problem by selectively disconnecting buffer board flex cables.

Having recently fixed another Vizio with similar symptoms that was a shorted ESD diode array ( link ) Probed the ESD diode array but...

Vizio SmartCast TV software bug that looks like hardware
      by howardc64
Bug looks like hardware so thought I posted it here. Exact same behavior on 2 different model 4K Vizio TVs running their SmartCast smarttv software. After launching youtube app, press vizio button on remote to return to the smarttv menu, once in awhile, a column of bad pixels will show for few seconds on the left hand side.

It seems the vizio software is reinitializing hardware when returning to the smarttv menu. In general, SmartCast software isn't very good. Also will randomly (relatively infrequent) get no network connection when on wifi and require reboot....
