Samsung BN44-00499A blown cap value?

Hi everyone, hopefully someone can help me out here. It seems that my TV no longer powers on. I opened it up and noticed that a cap has blown. Im not sure what value/type of cap I need to replace it.

Hopefully some of these images can help answer my question.

0.01uF 5% tolerance Polyester film, 450V rating minimum becuse it is connected in parallel with the main filter cap which is rated at 450V. I would go with 600V rating cap.
BTW, did the main AC fuse blown?

Do you know where I can obtain one of those caps you recommend? Should I replace both caps?

In regards to the ceramic fuse, I checked using my multi-meter and I get a OL on continuity. Which to me means that the fuse is pooched. It's a T5AH250V

Yes, I expect that fuse to blow when that cap shorted out, the fuse is 5A TIME-DELAYED (SLO-BLO) FUSE with 250V minimum rating, it looks to be 5mm x 20mm fuse.
I hope that the bridge rectifier and the parts in the PFC Voltage booster circuits are not damaged when that cap shorted out.
Remove that cap and then you should check the resistance between the two outer legs of the bridge, and then the resistance between the two inner pins of the bridge. We are looking to see if the readings will show low resistance or not.

ok, So I set my meter to 2000k

- black lead on the + outside leg and red lead on the other outside leg = 1075
- red lead on the + outside leg and black on the other side leg = 1170

- inside legs (both ways) = 900ish

That cap seems to be hard to get with 5% at DIGIKEY.
You will have to settle with 10% instead.

Fuse: You should check to see if it has 5mm Dia, and about 20mm Long.

Do you think the bridge rectifier and remaining components are still functional? I edited my post with updated readings.

cap should be x or x2 rated probably.

The cap is in parallel with the main filter cap CP806, not across the Line and Neutral. I looked through lots of the SAMSUNG PFC Voltage booster circuits, none of them has this small value cap in parallel with the min filter cap.
I was looking for something less than 100 Ohms, you are getting in the 1000 Ohms range so at least the Power MOSFET for the PFC Voltage booster is not shorted.

BTW, check fusible resistor RP820 (<1 Ohms) to make sure it does not show open circuit.

It seems living in Canada sucks when it comes to ordering items online. For $4 worth of items they want $25 for shipping alone.

Would it be ok if I was to purchase these items off ebay? or am I just asking for troubles with quality?

Do you have local electronics repair shop?
I would go with WIMA (if it is not faked) compared to unknown brand.
Fuse is fine.

Your right.. I ended up going on the Digi-Key Canada site and purchased:

Part #: 1572-1003-ND
Description: CAP FILM 0.01UF 630VDC RADIAL
Unit Price: $0.65

Part #: 507-1214-ND
Description: FUSE CERAMIC 5A 250VAC 5X20MM
Unit Price: $0.42

I got 2 of each + shipping / tax = $10.42


I forgot to ask.. is there much of a difference/concern between + - 5% and 10% on the cap? Last question would be, do these types of caps have a polarity associated with each leg?

Everything works perfectly

Only issue I had after was that it wasn't reading the hdmi ports (handshake issue). A simple unplug/replug fixed this.
