    Samsung UN29F4000AF Electrical Storm Damage.

    Hello everyone,

Trying to help my neighbor out here. He has a Samsung UN29F4000AF LED TV that stopped working after a lightning storm. We've taken the back off and can't see anything obvious like a burnt area or something like that. The red light on the power button comes on when the unit is plugged in but that's it. There is no backlight as far as we can tell and we tried the flashlight trick to see an image on the screen but there appears to be nothing. It doesn't respond to the remote either. From other internet research I've done i'm guessing it's the main board but was hoping for a little guidance from someone here. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance
    Tim

Was the TV connected to the Cable box via HDMI? I the cable box OK?
The standby power supply is working otherwise you will not get any indicator lights.

Good thing is you got STBY voltage. Only thing to figure out now is if you get PSon voltage from the mainboard back to the power supply. You also can take the PSU out and force it on and check all the voltage rails.

            BTW: Are these your boards?

Unplug the TV power cord from the outlet and then disconnect the cable between the power supply board and the main board to see if the backlights will come on when you plug the power cord into the outlet.

Ok the DirecTV box seems to be fine and it was connected to the TV with an HDMI cable. He did the test suggested by budm and the backlights came on. Checking with him to see if the boards are the same as those in the links.

That means you have main board problem.

Here are some pics of his boards. Is it recommended to replace the mainboard at this point? If so, how do we go about determining the correct replacement. I had the same issue on a Panasonic and we had to figure the correct suffix I believe by reading a block of jumpers on the board. Would it be the same with this one?

You have to search for the white sticker on the mainboard.
I only repair Panasonic plasma tv's! Currently owning a TX-P55VT50 and still searching for a ZT60!
