Is this power supply the right one?

    Hi Everybody.

My tv popped this morning, and electrical smoke came from it. I thought it was the capacitor, so I pulled it apart, and they still look intact. But underneath, I found the power board had short circuited to the part behind it. And some thingi (best I've got), are burnt out.

I'm fine to solder in new parts, but I have no idea what they are, or if it's fixable (somebody let me know if it is!).

I'm hunting for a new power supply. I found this one very well priced:
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LG-37LD45...item51b791d9ce

    And this is mine.

It has the same EAX number, UK has the same voltage rating as Australia (if that makes any difference). But, the two pale almost rectangular things in the top left corner of the ebay picture is a different colour. Does this make any difference before I order it?

    Thanks in advance everybody!

D701 is a diode, R7** is a resistor. They're probably the same parts as D702 and R712 which are located a bit to the right as their purpose is the same.

You could measure the resistance and replace that part with a resistor of same value, and measure the diode's voltage drop and pick a suitable diode as replacement.

Though, it would be a good idea to also check and see if the mosfets that are at the end of those traces are working properly (i think it's Q707 and Q708) ... a shorted mosfet could have caused the damage, before the fuse blown (or not).

I can't tell you if the replacement power supply is good for you since you don't say the monitor brand and model. Check and see if the connectors have the same number of wires, if they're in the same locations, check the texts written on boards in the pictures from ebay, you may see there a part number, or model, revision etc, and compare with what's written on your power supply board.

If your set is 42" or 32", the 37" board might not work. But if it is same screen size, it should be good.

I think Q707 will have popped and taken out the gate diode and resistor. I'd be suspect about the the driver chip now because of the current that has flowed back into the chip. There maybe one more fet between the resistor and the driver chip, but I doubt it.

Thanks heaps for the advice. I'll have to pull my multimeter out, and see if I can figure out how to use it!

Nothing to loose by trying to fix it up before buying the other power board. I'd rather spend a few dollars on resistors and diodes before spending more.

And this forum is awesome, it saved me from buying a new computer monitor ages ago, and now hopefully it'll save me from buying a new tv!
