Sharp LC-52XD1E Large green vertical bands

Having a large transparent, graded green horizontal band on my Sharp LC-52XD1E TV.

It starts after 2-3 seconds after powering on the TV.

I have made a short video with some explanation of what I have already done, including what happens if I disconnect one of two cables between the TCON board and the LCD panel.

    URL: https://goo.gl/photos/ZxTuBXbWFKSuKmQq7

I have already done the following troubleshooting.

    - removed dust
    - All capacitors on the boards look ok (no bulges/leaks)
    - No broken connections/cables
    - CCFL lamps/inverters fine (all function, nu flickering)
    - I have read the troubeshooting manual on this board
    - When disconnecting either of the flat cables between the panel and the TCON board, the band disappears. The first seconds after reconnecting the flat cable the band does not show up.
    - As the band is occupying about 3/4 of the height of the screen, I don't suspect any troubles with the horizontal drivers on the panel. I have no vertical bands either, so I have no indications so far the panel is faulty.
    - As a result of the above I suspected the TCON board. I replaced it with no avail.

    Can anybody help?

    Thx in advance! https://www.badcaps.net/forum/images...on_biggrin.gif

Re: Sharp LC-52XD1E Large green vertical bands

Just so you are aware, it is a really bad idea to disconnect/reconnect the panel ribbons while power is on. Permanent damage can be caused to the panel. Not that that matters unfortunately, as this is likely an LCD panel fault. The gate driver for the right hand side has failed, and cannot drive the panel properly.

You may want to attempt a "tab shim", which is a "fix" which involves applying pressure to the appropriate bonds on the panel which have failed. (The problem likely occurs after re-making the connection because the connection has cooled down - once it warms up it breaks the connection.) However I have had poor success myself with this method. Others have had better luck so you might get lucky.

Tom66, thx for your quick reply. Very much appreciated. And thx also for your words of warning, raising my awareness.

I have understood from troubleshooting guides, issues with vertical/horizontal (gate/source) drivers appear as smaller bands, as normally only one driver (or its bond fails). The band on my tv takes up about 3/4 of the panel. Do you have the experience such wide bands, loose bonds appear overnight over such wide range?

      Again, thx in advance!

Yes, I've seen a fault very much like this caused by bad tabs. The problem is the tabs on the left and right - the gate drivers - chain signals to each other. If a connection fails at any one tab, all subsequent tabs will display an issue, too.

Tom66, clear answer. Thx! I will see what can I do with tabs. Will have to dismantle the front cover and some metal casing.

Insignia NS-50DR620NA18 w/ large vertical lines & no picture
            by srs
I'm not sure what to do next and came here since y'all helped me fix a 50" plasma TV back in 2014, which is still working!

A friend gave me an Insignia NS-50DR620NA18 50" TV that suddenly developed large vertical lines on it. He said he had no idea what might have caused it and has replaced it with a larger TV. He was going to throw it away.

I did not notice any bulged or leaking caps on any board, the voltages produced by the power supply match the voltage that the pins are marked. The backlight leds are working. I have tried cleaning the ribbon cables...

Partial Success Repairing Vertical White Bands on HP Z30i
            by lowteq
            Hello.

I was given a HP Z30i LCD computer monitor that had several white wide vertical bands on it. I had another Z30i that was working and after a lot of swapping of components I found that the logic board, TCON board and associated ribbon cables were healthy. The problem was the ribbon cables that go from a long slender PCB across the top of the panel onto the panel itself. The problem connection was on the PCB side not the glass panel side. These ribbon cables are attached with some kind of heat set adhesive.

I'm aware that this type of problem usually isn't repairable...

            LCD TV Green/Pink screen problem
            by jimjoe123
I have a Dick Smith 37" LCD TV, Model GE6804. I am using it as PC extended monitor only.

Problem is while watching tv, I hear a semi loud click(like a electrical breaker tripping due to overload, just sound like it but no actual electrical overload), then screen is covered with green or pink. I can still see the original picture image but overlayed by green or pink. See attached images. Pink.jpg is what I see, and Normal.jpg is before green or pink screen, What I captured was pink screen, but about 80% of time it's green and 20% of time it's pink.

            Then each time...

Sharp LC-70LE650U vertical black and red bars
            by ninja_zx11
            Hi all,

70" LED TV is Sharp LC-70LE650U.

Initial problem was horizontal lines and slow motion lurrs on the bottom left of the screen. So I removed both the left and right ribbon cables from the T-con board and tried to clean it with alcohol and when I put it back, this issue appeared. I tried carefully reinserting the ribbon bon cables but same thing. I checked the traces of the ribbon cables with magnifying glass and everything looks good. I cleaned the small jumper ribbon cable on the left side of the screen which cured the horizontal line and slow motion blurs...

Sharp LC19SB24U; red vertical line comes and goes
            by valvashon
Yes, this is a very old Sharp 19" but I would like to fix it if possible. As you can see from the attached picture there is a single red vertical line.
Yesterday when I turned the set on, it was there for about 30 minutes then disappeared and did not show up again (set was on for another 3 hours or so).
Today it was not there when I powered the set on, then appeared after about 15 minutes. Set has been on for about an hour and it's still there.
From what I have read I'm guessing that this might be the t-con board and not the display itself as it does come and go.
