Re: Toshiba 42AV555D not starting up

It has to be fast recovery type since we are dealing high frequency switching pulse.
1n4007 does not list Trr because it is not fast recovery, the 1007 has Trr of 500nS.
Regular 1007 is not going to last, it will heat up and die.

How about a BA159? Seems to tick all the right boxes.

Or possibly a better match UF4007.

Re: Toshiba 42AV555D not starting up

Apologies for jumping in,yes I should think a 1n4007 would be fine,it's quite common to see these used on snubber networks, along with the BA159.

Apologies to budm, didn't see your above posting.yes have seen UF4007 used commonly too, particularly on FSP supplies.

Have ordered a UF4007 so shall wait for delivery, I do have some new 1N4007's but shall wait now though suppose it would be ok just for testing purposes.

                Thanks.

Fitted a 1N4007 and appears to be working fine.
Shall replace it when the correct part arrives and report back.

                  Thanks again.

Great, as least you now know that it works for testing purpose.
So the TV is working now?

Re: Toshiba 42AV555D not starting up

Appears to work. Red stby led on, press on button and green led lights and can get menu, volume etc.. working. Only powered up briefly but looks good on the face of it.

I will report back with a conclusive response after replacing the diode.
My sister in law will be pleased to have her 7 yr old faithful tv back. Now she tells me that it has played up for a while now, not always turning on straight away and other times having to wait some considerable time before it would power on. Why oh why do people not tell you everything right at the beginning? Would have helped greatly and saved time!

                        UF4007 arrived today and fitted

Tv comes on in stby and switches on from stby, its been on stby most of the day and switched on/off a few times and completely powered off and back on again so it has the thumbs up!

Thanks for the help all!!! Appreciated yet again!

Re: Toshiba 42AV555D not starting up

Unfortunately the TV has stopped working again, dropped it off last night and the children watched a film before bed and watched a film earlier today but the tv switched itself off and won't come back on.

If its the same diode what could be causing it to fail?

Check the new diode first to see if it failed the same way, may be there are more component in that snubber circuit beside that diode. May have to trace out the board to see how it is done.
Or may have to get the same as original.
