Re: Panasonic TC-P54S2 plasma TV--won't turn on, originally 10 blinks, now 7 blinks
Anyone have a list of needed transistors and diodes for a typical repair for the SC board?

Re: Panasonic TC-P54S2 plasma TV--won't turn on, originally 10 blinks, now 7 blinks
That did it! Thank you so much!
It's good as new, except for one thing--there's a slight buzzing noise whenever graphics are superimposed on the screen (like sports scores during the news, or a telephone number during a commercial). I've owned televisions before that did that, but I would swear that this one never did that before.
Thanks again. I wish I had found this site much earlier in the process!Leave a comment:

get it right first, unless you want to risk the SC board againLeave a comment:

Thanks! I'll get to that tonight. In the meantime, will it hurt anything if my wife watches the TV today, or should it stay off until I fix it?Leave a comment:

Only do this with TV off, the bad areas will align with the ribbon that is wrong. Take your time, be gentle and grab either side of the ribbon and insert keeping it perfectly straight, they may have notches to help show if either side is misaligned.Leave a comment:

Re: Panasonic TC-P54S2 plasma TV--won't turn on, originally 10 blinks, now 7 blinks
So...one step forward, one step back. I discovered a loose connector to the SS board, hidden underneath the A board. Now everything is great--except the picture has black horizontal lines running through it, as shown in the attached photo...Leave a comment:

I'm about to leave for work, so I'll try these things this evening. Thank you both for the suggestions.
One thing to add: while the set was on, the picture gradually improved some, in the sense that the amount of black decreased and the amount of grainy red picture increased. It ended up with solid black horizontal bands alternating with horizontal bands of the grainy red picture. Overall more picture than black.Leave a comment:

Sorry to butt in Joey..could you do me a favor and check something on your set for me? With A6 disconnected from A board, can you check pins 9 and 10 of the socket for A6 on the board for resistance to ground? Thanks a million!Leave a comment:

Re: Panasonic TC-P54S2 plasma TV--won't turn on, originally 10 blinks, now 7 blinks
Well--partial success. I installed the new SC board, and now the TV turns on and stays on, and the sound is fine, but the picture only partially shows up, in squares of grainy red. In the attached photo, the bright area at the top is the reflection of a lamp; other than that the photo is an accurate representation of how the screen looks.
Thoughts?
Thanks.
check and make sure all panel ribbons are in correctly, check that the small white ribbon connector that join the su to sd is in place, try the other set of buffer boards. If still the same could still be bad SC.
is everything else connected including the SS board.
can you look at the sc and confirm board number and revision suffix or what is on the white sticker if it has oneLeave a comment:

Re: Panasonic TC-P54S2 plasma TV--won't turn on, originally 10 blinks, now 7 blinks
All i can suggest is
installed SC - 7 blinks,
2 pairs of sd/su were boards used and confirmed good, same 7 blinks for both sets.
,isolated sd/su boards as per panasonic sd/su isolation test,
still 7 blinks, SC board is causing 7 blinks.
A-board confirmed good.
You can write as much or little of the above, up to you.Leave a comment:

Re: Panasonic TC-P54S2 plasma TV--won't turn on, originally 10 blinks, now 7 blinks
Thanks--I never would have found that. In diode mode I got 1.194 or .753, depending on what order I put the leads, using the outer legs. In resistance mode I got 2.23 K either way.Leave a comment:

What I'm saying is that I can't see anything in the tiny image at the left, and I can't find a way to see it on a larger scale. I can save the image to my computer and then enlarge it, but then it's blurry and I still can't see anything in it.
Thanks--Leave a comment:

Re: Panasonic TC-P54S2 plasma TV--won't turn on, originally 10 blinks, now 7 blinks
I'll let you know once I have that info, but I'm thinking , sd/su boards confirmed good, installed SC - 7 blinks, isolated sd/su boards, performed panasonic sd/su isolation test, sc installed still 7 blinks, SC board is faulty.Leave a comment:

by jm1234Hi,
anyone able to provide the service manual for old plasma Panasonic TX-P42ST50E?
It turns off almost immediately (0~5 seconds after pressing the on/off button) and starts flashing the red diode 6 times.
I disconnected the left-hand side board (SC?, both the ribbon cable and the power cable to it) and also another ribbon going to bottom left board. Then the led signal is 8 flashes. According to service guide to another Panasonic plasma it would mean the left-hand side board is faulty. But I'm not sure it 100% applies to my model.
I checked that board for any obvious faults... -
by AlicatHello,
Stopped by this site trying to fix my parents Panasonic Plasma TV.
Model number is TH-50PZ85U
Power comes on and the red power light stays on solid.
Did a few checks like hold the power button on for 60 seconds, hold the - Volume while holding the menu button, no luck, still@ blank grey screen as the screen lights up very vague.
I also hear a few clicks.
I also think my parents said there was a thunderstorm and the TV failed after that.
Section 6 in the service manual talks about power and no screen,...10-30-2024, 10:09 AM -
by nick31Hello,
My Oct 2012 panny plasma quit working yesterday.
It was on when it happened. It let out a bit of burned plastic/circuit board smell. I was not able to find any burned parts though.
Now it produces 8 blinks. According to the repair manual, that points to SS/SS2 board(s).
I completed the steps in the guide: unplugged SS33, the TV turned on with a black screen, no blinking codes. Then I checked the continuity between pins 1 and 2 of the connectors SS52, SS54-SS57. The continuity is ok in all of them. Guide suggests to replace SS/SS2 boards so I placed an order... -
by stecosHi everyone!
I happened several times, in the search for help from the web, to consult this very interesting forum.
So I decided to sign up and I intend to participate actively by making available my knowledge and experience on the subject, I'm a new user but at the same time I'm old in the sense that I have 4 decades of experience in repairing and designing electronics but above all I'm a great passionate about the subject.
Having said that I come to the gist of my post on the forum as the title suggests.
For my passion for technology I'm now collecting several... -
by BiruslapioHello, I've had this TV for 3 years, 2 years ago it stopped working signaling 12 Blinks, SOUND_SOS according to the service manual.
It has no VSUS or VDAT, and P15V has 1.0V instead, the same 15V goes to A board. F15V is ok and other main voltage rails.
It seems the power supply is defective, since unplugging D20 ribbon cable that goes from D-board to SC-board makes the behavior change, the TV stays on, there's no image nor VSUS, but 15V reads 2.4V, high enough to not trip the SOS 12 blinks, so it stays on, fans do not spin but I left it 2 hours, green led lit up... - Loading...
