Re: Panasonic TC-P54S2 plasma TV--won't turn on, originally 10 blinks, now 7 blinks
That did it! Thank you so much!
It's good as new, except for one thing--there's a slight buzzing noise whenever graphics are superimposed on the screen (like sports scores during the news, or a telephone number during a commercial). I've owned televisions before that did that, but I would swear that this one never did that before.
Thanks again. I wish I had found this site much earlier in the process!

Re: Panasonic TC-P54S2 plasma TV--won't turn on, originally 10 blinks, now 7 blinks
So...one step forward, one step back. I discovered a loose connector to the SS board, hidden underneath the A board. Now everything is great--except the picture has black horizontal lines running through it, as shown in the attached photo......

Re: Panasonic TC-P54S2 plasma TV--won't turn on, originally 10 blinks, now 7 blinks
I'm about to leave for work, so I'll try these things this evening. Thank you both for the suggestions.
One thing to add: while the set was on, the picture gradually improved some, in the sense that the amount of black decreased and the amount of grainy red picture increased. It ended up with solid black horizontal bands alternating with horizontal bands of the grainy red picture. Overall more picture than black.

Re: Panasonic TC-P54S2 plasma TV--won't turn on, originally 10 blinks, now 7 blinks
Well--partial success. I installed the new SC board, and now the TV turns on and stays on, and the sound is fine, but the picture only partially shows up, in squares of grainy red. In the attached photo, the bright area at the top is the reflection of a lamp; other than that the photo is an accurate representation of how the screen looks.
Thoughts?
Thanks....

Re: Panasonic TC-P54S2 plasma TV--won't turn on, originally 10 blinks, now 7 blinks
What I'm saying is that I can't see anything in the tiny image at the left, and I can't find a way to see it on a larger scale. I can save the image to my computer and then enlarge it, but then it's blurry and I still can't see anything in it.
Thanks--

Re: Panasonic TC-P54S2 plasma TV--won't turn on, originally 10 blinks, now 7 blinks
I can still send the faulty replacement SC board back for an exchange. I'm supposed to write on a copy of the invoice "what is wrong with the board." How would I best describe that?
Thanks a lot, again--

Replacing the SC board is what made it change from 10 blinks to 7--so that just means the two SC boards were bad in different ways?
I'll get ahold of a different clip to be sure on the SC50. Thanks for the suggestion of moduslinkpts, and thanks a lot for all the help!

Re: Panasonic TC-P54S2 plasma TV--won't turn on, originally 10 blinks, now 7 blinks
Continuing with the next step, I still got 7 blinks. I couldn't find a proper clip so I improvised by bending a paper clip so it would fit, but I feel like it was doing the job adequately. Also, when removing the 4 bolts, there was a 5th bolt in between the SD and SU boards. I left that in.
Thanks.

Okay. Eliminating the A board, the set did stay on. At the moment I am letting it sit while the voltage dissipates.
As for the questions in your last post, by no reading I meant OL. And reversing the probes I found I did get some readings:
Old SU
pin 2: 13.21Meg
pin 8: went over 20Meg, which is the max for my meter, then OL
Replacement SU
pin 2: 13.35Meg
pin 8: also >20Meg
Old SD
pin 1: 13.12Meg
Replacement...

At long last, here are my readings:
original SC board:
SC2 connector pins: 67.3K

C561: 5.6K
original SU board:
pin 2: no reading
pin 4: 221K
pin 8: no reading
replacement SU board:
pin 2: no reading
pin 4: 220K
pin 8: no reading
original SD board:
pin 1: no reading
