    Panasonic TX37LZD800 died- Help!

I've had this excellent tv for 8 years and have just passed it on to my daughter when it's suddenly died (Embarassed look). On it's arrival in 2007 on the first day just after setting up it failed when I used the elongated switch on the bottom front left (as I recall there was a flicker on the screen then nothing and no standby light either). Then the shop took the set away and brought it back the same day and it has worked faultlessly every day since then but I never trusted that switch again and always used a wall switch thereafter! My daughter however did use the tv's switch and the problem has resurfaced. The first question is whether it is possible that the mechanical toggle switch has failed and if so how can I test this? Here are front and back pics of the power switch board. Can I, using just a small AA battery, a torchbulb and a couple of pieces of wire test the continuity of the switch contacts- seems there's 3 single poles. Maybe the switch isn't the issue and that on operating the switch the real failure occurred each time on another board? Any advice welcome!
