Replacing the T-CONN board fixed my problem. the symptoms were a very intermittent BACKLIGHT ok, SOUND ok, NO picture. after troublshooting and with advice by budm, tom66 and a number of other fourmites it's fixed.
I was down to either the main board or T-conn board. more researching revealed about 85% of the time with those symptoms, the T-conn was the culprit. I bought a T-conn on ebay for $32. power cycled it about six times and each time the picture came right up. before, 98% of the time the picture would not come on.
now I have the bad t-conn. is it worth troubleshooting while I have the set apart on the bench. I'd be willing to try if I had some things to check. I don't have a scope for signal tracing.
old t-conn had a good fuse and 12V on each side of the fuse.
thanks again for all the advice and guidance.
