LG 50PS60-UA Top half black sometimes, whole screen black sometimes

Hey guys!

I'm just looking for some help to trouble shoot my LG (50PS60-UA)plasma screen issues. I've done a little bit of reading/research and found out this is a pretty common issue, and there are a few possible culprits



the issues are intermittent but change very frequently

ISSUES:
1-Sometimes the top half of the screen is black
2-Sometimes the top half of the screen has black and red lines covering it
3- Sometimes the top half of the screen is compeltly fine
4- Sometimes the Whole screen is black

usually there will be a combination of the first 3 symptoms for about 5 mins then eventually symptom 4 always happens and stays that way until the tv is turned off and on

i did Va/Vs voltage test they are both within the specs listed on the board.

so, my question is.. where do i start? how do i begin to narrow down the issue(s)

Im going to start by saying faulty connection going from Y sustain to upper buffer board. Remove buff er r boards from y sustain and reconnect to start.

Someone on here had an LG 50PS3000 (same generation, nearly identical parts) with this symptom, it was a bad ribbon cable from the control board to the Y-sustain.

I'm in agreement with tom66 usually its a ribbon problem and simply loosening the ribbon holder and tapping with your fingers will sometimes make it apparent which one is faulty more than likely it needs re-seated or replaced I have 4 ribbons going from my t-con two control left side of set and two the other side definitely the ribbons

I took a look at the connectors and cables on the Y sus board couldnt see any visible signs of damage or anything. i took the board off, disconnected it from the buffer boards and control board. looked for cold joints. couldnt see anything. reconnected it, problem still exists

anything else i can try?

So I've pulled it off again and re connected everything still same issue.

can anyone tell me where to start troubleshooting so i can narrow down if its a buffer board, ribbon cables or Ysus board

Maybe worth taking a house hold hairdryer and heating parts up as it seems to be a thermal issue. If the fault occurs when something is heated it should be investigated.

I just re read your post. I don't know if I would consider it a thermal issue. The problem is constant from a cold start. So its not a matter of issue arising after x amount of time of being on.

The screen is never fully working for any longer than 20 secs or so.

Hope this clears up the problem I'm having?

Just to clarify my problem..

When I turn my TV on, the screen is completely black (I get sound). I turn it off and on, after the 3rd or 4th time turning it on/off the bottom half of the screen will come on but the top half will either by completely black or will half red and back lines running completely across the top half (sometimes the top half will work perfectly for a few secs) but mostly its black or has lines across it. Eventually after about a minute or two the whole screen goes black again.
