TC-P45X5 Plasma Has Taken Up Smoking

Must be a bad month for me and Panasonics... I have a 42" that has taken up smoking.

You plug it in and the marked part starts smoking like a chimney...

The old me would have just replaced the board and be done with it.

The new me wants to learn to fix and save $60 in the process..

    Any help would be appreciated...

EDIT Mistake on SUBJECT.. It's a TC-P42X5... My bust...

Reading some of the other experiences with this particular model, I am glad I opted to try and fix the board rather than pay for a new one...

It is comprehensively Panasonic's worst model ever. They completely abandoned their previously high quality standards and produced these pieces of turd. 42" and 50" included.

I have the same power board here so can read off that component for you if you need.

That would be great.. Do ya think just the part went bad?? Or merely a symptom of something worse???

        Thanx for the reply...

Thats a ceramic cap--prob several hundred puf, rated prob at a 1KV or so.....

Check that transistor on the heatsink for issues, but its probably just the cap...

Re: TC-P45X5 Plasma Has Taken Up Smoking

Well, I found a 221K Cap.. Put it in..

The good news is, it's not smoking..

The bad news is, it does nothing. Power light comes on RED, I hear a relay click and that's it.. absolutely nothing gets to the screen...

So, I am thinking there is more damage to the board...

Is there a +/- on that cap???

Slight correction. The first time I plugged it in there was a relay click.. Now there isn't.. There is just the power light comes on RED when I push the POWER button.. Both on the remote and on the unit...

No polarity but probably more faults. What is the voltage across the 450V capacitor?

OK, back on this... I inspected the area a little more closely and discovered some more charred spots...

I cleaned that off and it appears that it was just residue from the capacitor, not any burned or damaged component...

Just so I make sure I am doing this right...

At those points with the meter set for DC...

Sorry to be so anal, but I want to make sure I am doing this right..

                                Also, as an aside..

From experience it appears that the biggest danger in working on Plasmas is not the voltage...

It's the frakin' sharp edges of the metal cases!! I musta dropped a quart of blood so far....

I wonder if that inductor is failed. Check it doesn't have open windings on its two pairs of windings (will be obvious on the bottom of the board - if unsure post a picture)

I hope this helps. Info on these later models is near impossible to find. Since 2011 the manuals have been made impossible to enlarge in any detail for the schematics, 2012 models , you're flat out getting any info on the PSU.

i was looking at the 2012 guide for the Ut/ST50 but thay have a separate PSU as opposed to your PSS(P + SS)

On the ST50 it suggests for shorted Vda

No SOS. The TV stays on with black screen.

For the 2011 , shorted Vsus,Vda - locked solid LED

I have attached the manufacturers schematic for this PSS, it's 50" but is still a B159-201 series board

I am having Samsung PS51E550 Plasma TV. While the TV was working, a crackling sound heard & video went off with audio still ON. After switching it off & ON, the red LED on TV blinks six times & then off.
Opened TV cover & observed foll
                                          a) Green LED on the small PCB blinks at @5-6sec ON & off for 3-4 secs. Red LED on logic board ON
b)Vs & Va on power supply board raises momentarily to 209v & 58v resp & then drops.
                                          c) Cold test on Y-main board shows all 3 pins of FGPF4536 IGBT short to Grnd.
How to confirm Y -Buffer board...

                                          Panasonic plasma TX-P42ST50 - 6 blinks

                                          Hi,
anyone able to provide the service manual for old plasma Panasonic TX-P42ST50E?
It turns off almost immediately (0~5 seconds after pressing the on/off button) and starts flashing the red diode 6 times.
I disconnected the left-hand side board (SC?, both the ribbon cable and the power cable to it) and also another ribbon going to bottom left board. Then the led signal is 8 flashes. According to service guide to another Panasonic plasma it would mean the left-hand side board is faulty. But I'm not sure it 100% applies to my model.
I checked that board for any obvious faults...

Hitachi 55HDS69 55" Plasma TV - No Picture But Sound
                                          by KYBOSH
Picked up a bahemoth plasma TV not too long ago and just now getting around to looking at it.
No picture but you hear the TV static (white noise) playing loud and clear.
The back was already taken off (and no screws were provided) as the previous owner had already taken a look.
But it seems they didn't get too far and just left it.

When I first took a look I was amazed at how pristine the inside looked.
Its as if the TV had been in a time capsule.
Caps looked like they were just pulled off the self.
Copper coils had no sign of corrosion on...

What parts can be salvaged from a plasma with a damaged display panel?
                                          by SurrealMustard
I recently found myself the proud owner of a later-model Samsung plasma (the PN59D7000 for those keeping score at home) whose panel was, unfortunately, damaged in transport. I'm now preparing to part it out, but am curious as to whether or not any damage would have come to any of the components by attempting to power it up with the panel being broken. I read in one Avsforum thread (for whatever that's worth 😂) that the "scan driver boards" (by which I assume he means buffer boards) could be impacted by doing so. Is that actually the case? If so, since I don't intend on selling bad...
