hey all

found this site from googling how to repair my samsung le32a457 tv , its started to turn itself off and now sometimes takes a while to turn on again

many sites suggest its blown caps

ive taken it apart and i have no swollen caps , no leakage apart from one dot that looks like sharpie ?

is it possible theyre starting to fail and havent swollen yet? if so could someone please help identify which ones i should replace please

i can get all the pics you need ..just tell me what to take pics of

See attached picture, those caps in circles should be replaced, those bad glues should be removed.
Unplug the TV from the AC outlet, then try heating the power supply board with hair dryer for a few minutes to see if the TV will start up.

it comes back on if it stands for 20 mins

ebay kits only include 4 caps..so im best to take down the ratings and replace them all

you say bad glues? can you explain further on what you mean please , ive never repaired a tv before

Bud, I seem to remember that the blue poly cap below the transformer has been a problem with this PSU before? Or am I getting mixed up with another PSU?

Yes, that is also another common failure cap for the 24V power supply. I wonder now if he is talking about the backlights that do not always come on or the whole TV does not always turns on.

whole tv turns off like you switched it off , first few times it turns on straight away , then last night it wouldnt turn on for around 20 mins or so

So the power light on a Samsung is normally lit in standby and off when running. When it just turns off, does the standby light come back on? Or does it stay off?

stanby led should be lit in stanby and off with the tv on

when it turned off it was blank , when trying to turn on the tv it randomly flashed

okay guys

i ordered all the parts , they came in and match the originals in size except the

680uf 25v is somewhat smaller than the original part , is this a concern ? maybe weaker because of the size ?

It won't be a concern, capacitor dimensions can vary quite a lot.

right thanks tom

so ive replaced the 7 big caps , tv works still

after approx 1 hour it turned off but came back on straight away by itself , before i replaced the caps you always had to manualy press the remote

so it feels ive done some good ..does the above point toward anything obvious an ametuer could look at ?

Where did you buy the capacitors from?
(Please don't say Maplin or eBay....)

Did you get genuine Panasonic, Nichicon, Rubycon or United Chemicon capacitors? The general purpose ones most eBay sellers sell are absolute junk - could well cause your issues.

In future (I really should have mentioned this before) CPC have free delivery over £5 on any card orders. http://cpc.farnell.com/

Use Panasonic FM/FR/FC or Rubycon YXF (they stock both sets, typically Panasonic is slightly cheaper)

it said panasonic in the auction but theres no branding on them at all ..so assume no name jobbies

this is what it had

all 105deg

470uf 25v
680uf 25v
680uf 35v x 3
3300 10v
2200 10v

should i make the 680 25v a 35v to simplify things

if you get a min would you link me some correct part numbers , i dont want to get the wrong bits twice

Do your capacitors have (M) printed on them and a series designator such as FM, FR, FC....?

from the spares i have left over

3300 says 307md
680 says421fv
470 says ky ,m105deg 4 (k)
2200 says 3714OF (possibly a q)

others i cant see as theyre installed

I had a look at the auction, its hmcomp, I've used him before and he seemed alright (caps looked genuine too) so you should be OK then. There are many other sellers who sell fakes though so you have to watch out.

These days i don't use eBay with CPC being so cheap and £5 mind order, if it's coming short I just put some solder wick on the order to bring it up. Always need some solder wick!

okay its back to its old self

random turning off , struggles or refuses to come back on , led flashes for say 40 secs then glows try again it may or may not come on
