I have a 42" LG LCD model 42LG30. The upper right capacitor for the backlight inverter board burned up/incinerated so I replaced backlight inverter board. TV works but can smell and feel new board overheating also. I'm not good w soldering irons so prefer to replace whole board(s)/PCB(s). Is this more likely to be the power PCB/power board? Or the Main Board/Main PCB?

Re: LG 42LG30 LCD. repeat backlight inverter board overheat, not inv board
What do you mean when you say you feel it overheating? It's not at all abnormal for some backlight inverters to run very hot - 60~70C while operating - well above the human pain threshold. Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Re: LG 42LG30 LCD. repeat backlight inverter board overheat, not inv board
You may have the caps of the 24V line in the PSU failing and then the caps on the Inverter board are becoming stressed/overheated.
--I had the reverse on a set a while back, Poor inverter decoupling caps on the 24V caused the PSU caps to become seriously hot.....
True though a Lot of inverters run seriously Hot, especially those of the 'Master/Slave' variety...TELEFIX

Re: LG 42LG30 LCD. repeat backlight inverter board overheat, not inv board
I *think* I figured it out. Was fairly sure too hot as back of tv (with cover back on) felt hot at area where inverter board is. Took another look at old inv board and saw two thick rubber double-sticky strips on underside, and did not remember seeing same on new one. Took tv apart again, took out new inverter board, no strips so moved the strips from old to new board in same spots, and cleaned all the smoky residue from the old board from above board on metal inside and from inside the back cover. Feels cooler after running rest of day yesterday and no more burning electronic-component smell. But if smell returns or back plastic cover very hot again after running even longer, will replace power PCBoard. Thanks for all the advice/suggestions/comments.Comment

by m1ch43lzmHi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic... -
by howardc64All left and right refers to looking from rear of TV (or looking from front with TV upside down)
- TV came with vertical bars and no image. Found faulty TVS on left buffer board. Also replaced T-Con (may have damaged the original while hot air removing components, board has slight warp) and have full image but few horizontal lines on the screen. Some of the lines appears to be 2 pixel tall while others are 1 pixel tall.
- Disconnecting left and right buffer board potentially reveals problems on both sides with different signals (unless this T-Con require jumper like Samsung FB_TRDY1&3) Fault

by lostoneHello, I came here after finding some similar questions asked on other monitors and hope someone here can help me get an ancient Viewsonic VP230mp (23" 4:3 LCD) back to working condition.
First a little background, I have a background in computer and electrical engineering, and I'm smart enough to know I know nothing about LCD displays and how they work. For this topic I'm as green as they come.
When the display is turned on the viewsonic logo displays in the uppper left for 2 seconds then the screen goes black, the power LED is green (on) and when a computer is connected...-

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?by Tynan DillI was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.
Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.
I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.
The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.
With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

by HakuuHi There,
This TV was auto switching off after few seconds with some vertical lines on the screen, so got a new TCON board and replaced it.
After replacing the TCON board it was working fine and i set it up with everything, used for few hours, then had the bright idea to update the software on it. During the update process, TV switched off and now no audio or video. No relay switch sound.
