Is This Samsung LN32A450C1D Worth Repairing?

Friend found the TV lying on the curb before garbage day on his way to the Fixers Collective in Gowanus, Brooklyn for a Fixing Session. We popped off the back and found quite a surprise.

    Same attached pic is here:

    https://www.facebook.com/fixerscolle.../?l=a7dde21acd

I'm presuming the model number for the missing power board is BN44-00214A and I'm wondering if other model power boards can play nice-enough with this TV.

I'm not sure if other parts are missing like a T-Con board. I know smaller TVs will just have a power board, a main board, and an inverter board, but I'm not sure if this TV's one of them.

I'm not sure what part on the board can cause this type of larger-scale damage.

What else should I consider if I want to figure out whether this TV is worh repairing?

    Thanks for reading!

Looks like it might have arced to the chassis, possibly after a power surge. Wow, I haven't seen one that bad before.

Unsure if extra damage has been done, could be expensive to fix. If you have a DC lab power supply, you may be able to test the main board by connecting the 13V and 5V rails.

Looks like everything else is in there.

looks like it got hot enough to damage the backlight defuser.

Sometimes you need to break shit to fix it.... Thats why my lawnmower doesn't have a deadman switch or engine brake anymore

Basically, if installing a new (to me) power board won't bring it back to functioning order, then I will close things out.

Is a DC lab power supply also known as a bench power supply? Making a bench power supply out of a PC ATX power supply has always been a backburner to-do project for me.

        Thx 4 the reply!

The Fixers Collective is a group of tinkerers who help others get their stuff fixed up. It's 100% skillshare and participatory - the people bringing in things will take part in the repair process in one way or another. The collective meets once a month in Brooklyn, NY. They're looking to expand to other areas like Manhattan, too.

One of the "Fearless Fixers" always keeps an eye out for street finds. He found not only this TV, but also a Dell laptop (Studio 1735). I'm hoping the laptop just has a bad power button - there's no reaction when I press that button.

We looooooove getting LCD and plasma TV's and monitors because we also have a bagful of known-good-brand capacitors. We hope to move up and on to diagnosing stuff like transistors next (like the C5706 perhaps?).

            Thanks for asking!

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
              by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

              Assuming...

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

Upgrading a Samsung ue55nu7096u with logic board from an ue55ru7105k -- good idea?
              by ohren
I hope this is the right forum to post in despite not technically being a repair, but still a question of swapping boards.

I thought I'd explore the possibility to upgrade an existing working Samsung ue55nu7096u with the logic board (and power board if needed) of a newer model (ue55ru7105k) of the same size and appearance (and resolution). The reason being I'd like the extra inputs of that board including component in, an extra HDMI port and bluetooth. Its panel is broken so I have no use for the board otherwise.

The models launched in 2018 and 2019 respectively....
